The Pratt overhaul manual has a complete listing of what is permitted... Sharpie markers are okay; others are not. Silver pencils, of a certain manufacturer etc. Everything that touches a part has to be approved.

We had one part here where a pen fell out of an inspector's pocket and left ink on a part- the pen and all the info we had on it had to go back along with the part for disposition. I think it ended up okay, but that could potentially scrap a part.

Now the whole thing is together. I tweaked the door hinges so it’s not rubbing. No adjustment of the transport position with it screwed from all directions… seems to still sound fine but I’ll keep cleaning the heads.

Something interesting with the tape counter. In tape length mode it counts all the time. In elapsed time mode it only counts during play. If you FF the timer doesn’t run until you press play again. Thought it was broken but I guess that’s how it is.

Front face plastic cleaned inside and out. Also Re-glued as it fell apart. All lights and displays cleaned too. Tape well light seems brighter now to me.

Have to clean knobs and repaint the cover. It was painted black over the rust. I’ll see if I can find a gray tomorrow maybe. Then I’ll blast it and repaint using what we call the right way.

Do you have the means to do a full calibration jim?
I noticed the manual has decent instruction for adjusting all levels including for the DYNEQ feature.
W&F (JIS) a bit optimistic at 0.025% maybe (?)

Many are using NAKT100 software but fkd if I'm paying MS/Apple anything these days. I'm using the HansPeterRoth tapes, a few other gauges, WFGUI and a trusty old Tektronix scope. Get's the job done.
The HPR tapes are absolutely stellar items for what they cost and I would recommend them at the drop of a hat.

Just purchased an unmolested NAD 6155 for $75 CAD. Will have the technician go through it, as it has the original belt set in it. It should arrive in about a week. This was NAD's best deck in 1985-1988 - even though it's a 2-head deck.

The CD player sounds pretty nice as well. I think the output is hot which is why they have the variable out to trim it back to standard output. But the one thing that doesn’t work on my deck is the remote level control. It’s a motorized pot and it’s not moving. All other remote features work fine so it’s in the motor I guess. Not a big deal but I’ll keep a look out for another motor for it.

Does NAD make a receiver or amp or integrated with any kind of Power Out??

All their receivers have an in and out so you can use it as a tuner/preamp. They also had at least one tuner/preamp as well.

7300 I think is the big monitor series receiver.

The 7600 is the biggest @150WPC The 7400 is 100WPC

I'll set my alert for a 7600 but the nice one I saw was $700 with pick up only (Cali). When they reviewed it, they said it has: "1300 preamplifier, 4300 tuner, and 2600A power amplifier built into the receiver chassis. There is one on ebag for $100 but it looks like it was run over by the boat that used your tape deck for an anchor.

Well, you could do what I did and get a 1300/4300/2600A pile. But no remote this way. Receivers come with a "universal" remote that also controls other things like tape deck and CD player. I will have to lift my arm to turn a knob...

Take 2:

Initial test had a tape eating… tape is fine now… no FF or REW function.

Follow up test- all systems go. I have another set of belts I’ll install but both capstans are running (back tension probably goo again) and clean. But this is overall very tidy.

Number one with its cosmetic challenges will be sold off if anyone is interested. That’s working well with new belts installed. Also repainted the cover which is a bit light as you can see:
