Thanks for the great pics Nando!

We got drag boats in Phoenix at the end of May!! http://www.firebirdraceway.com/web/schedule.html

WooHoo! Wicked fast and turn on a dime, the records will fall!

My first 'Big Boys' drags were at Firebird raceway about 5 years ago, my buddy took me to the rail right where they shift into 2nd gear. Man, when they did that, I broke out in bumps all over my whole body, this nice older lady next to me looked me up and down and said " It's your first time, isn't it? "! All I could do was shake my head up and down, with a big 'ol shiteatin' grin

The organs inside you vibrate, awesome!

Hi stuwee,

Are you all set with a replacement computer, now? My first, and foremost love is going fast in a boat. Best of all, no speed enforcement laws to be bothered with.

Yes, the feeling of standing alongside the rail, or at the starting line is unparalled, when the high-horsepower cars run. Lee, almost replicates that feeling when he has downed a few cold ones and leans on the Spec amps and pegs the meters.

Nando.

Crown and Coke. Aren't you messing around with a CD player, right now? You better keep your wits about you, and save the drinks for later. Hold it, it's 9:00 p.m. there, right? In that case, you are good to go.

Appreciate that. Had to hold off on that for a minute, gotta go to partners house and get a check for Honnen EQ in casper. Had to do my expenses too, looked and i'M 5200 DOWN SO TIME TO COLLECT. Had a second hoist put on the 40 ton crane 41,511.56. casper happens to be 18 miles from a very good fishing spot. I'm thinking it will take a good 18 hours to go 120 miles pick up the crane and drive it home.

say it with me...FISHING FISHING FISHING FISHING! oh wait, hows that go...we're working, really we are...just because we take our poles doesn't mean we're not working

Nando, I never tire of looking at that pic of you and the boat!!
Me either, Nando when I get set up, I have a pic of me piloting my Grampa's 1962 Century Resorter with a Ford NASCAR 406 big block inboard, all mahogany, could pull 6 skiers with a flick of the wrist, can't remember what carb it had, but when you opened the secondarys, she just flew across the lake

Hi stuwee,

I love all the older wood boats. My first ski boat was a 1965 Glen L Thunderbolt with a 1965 4-cylinder, dual-carbed 500 Mercury outboard. This is the first boat I owned at age 14. I'll have to see if I can scan the pictures. Could you do the same of you and your grandpa's boat, if you are able to?

Will do, there's a great story behind the Century, his buddy Max bought a '61, and these two guys always had to out do each other, My Gramps bought the '62, well ol Max was having none of that, they both wanted the fastest boat on the lake (Torch Lake MI), Max bought a Chevy small block to drop in, Gramps had conections down in southern MI snagged the NASCAR Ford big block from Smokie Yannick I think, or one of his croonies. 'nuff said, fastest wood boat on the lake for years....until Walter P. Chrysler Jr. bought his summer house 3 houses down....yeppers the Hemi's invaded!!

Our place had triple pane weather windows on the lakeside, when those boats were coming around the point they about vibrated out of there frames, what fun those days were.

Gramps sold the boat in the early 70's and always regreted it, he got cancer in '76 and searched the boat out and bought it back, built a custom garage to restore it (it was a mess) I have some pics of that too. He took it out one fine summer night at sunset when it was done, got real sick the next day and went to the hospital, he never came home, but he did get to take her out for that last spin!

Stuwee,

That's a wonderful flashback! So, there's a bit of boy-racer in everyone one of your lineage? I know, a few boat freaks amongst my boat forum friends would love to hear that story.

For a good portion of us who have been around the block, it's comforting to relive a bit of our youth before our time is up. Vintage boats, vintage cars, vintage stereo, and vintage hearing and eyesight make great companions.

Nando.

Whoa! That's a cool ride there Nando! The second pic with the smoke from the shore mixing the the wake spray is awesome

I'm going to Mom's for Mothers Day, I hope she has a scanner for the pics I want to show you guys. There's not much info on Century boats on the web, what's this vitage boat forum you belong to?

That first pic of you in the thread earlier, wih you driving and those 3-4" gentle rollers, when I was a kid skiing, we called that "soft water", although bite it at anything above 30 and there was nothing soft about it.

Thanks stuwee! I was about 20 years old when my cousin took those pictures. In the small community of Britannia Beach, it was all the married women who wanted to ride with me. I was too innocent to know what that was all about... remember, I was a momma's boy.

The boat forum I belong to is more oriented to the particular brand of boat I own: http://sidewinder-boats.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This forum is not so much into the wooden runabouts, but, we do all appreciate them and reminisce about who owned what.

Your gramp's boat is a classic I would cherish!

Nando.

Smokie built Chevy engines out of Daytona Beach if I remember right. The last I heard he sold almost everything in Daytona and moved to Dallas. He was way ahead of his time. I'll have to google it and see if I'm right. Either way he could build an engine. He had a book out on how to build small blocks. I built one for just the street to his specs. It was a nice sleeper.

Seems he dabbled in Fords to, he was known for his Chevys and NASCAR engines, I could be wrong about where the motor was from him or someone else, Smokey's name always stuck in my head. Some good info on him......
