Mystery Deck #2

Bias only factors in recording, Nando.

I've hardly noticed in over 35 years. Clean heads were a larger factor. Me and cassette decks are tight.

Tony, just tell us you wanted a Nakamichi, no high crimes and treason in any of that. And congratulations. :glasses1:

Bias only factors in recording, Nando.

How did you deduce I was referring to bias as related to playback?

"Some may think having the auto tape selector and auto eq/bias is ideal on a cassette deck. But, I think it's the other way around, as having the ability to manually select those settings can give you some interesting results on playback and recording."

Nando.

Tony: I Read through the product brochure you provided. Very informative. Learned some details I hadn't known before.

Glad you enjoyed the read man.
I have to say, Nak brochures are probably the best ever ... nice eye candy and they explain so much in the laymen tongue. :tongue4:

Cant say I have seen one of these in the flesh before.

That said I dont think it will be going anywhere anytime soon, based on the asking price, and market here in town. A very cool deck to behold none the less.

That's a premium Aiwa deck, Ben. They usually sell for more than $800.

Nando.

Right. I had seen the latest sold on epay, for a lot of cake. It was offered to me at a substantially smaller price than listed. Unfortunately a new deck is not in the cards these days. Havent done any taping in quite some time.

That deck weighs over 30 lbs., Ben. You would have been surprised trying to lift it off the shelf.

Maybe if they just moved it away from the Bee Gees...

It will need a little psychotherapy for abuse though, someone rubbed it's buttons.

That deck is of the era when Sony and Aiwa were sharing production aspects, heads and circuit patents ...
but what is really freaking unique about that particular beast is that the chassis is built upon a wood base / floor
and has a D/A on-board to usher in the era of digital input sources.

Pioneers with the DR suffix also had an analog-digital-analog chain that made them incredible clear and quiet. I had two of them.
