Some guy dropped five PL400's onto Ebay for reasonable prices. Also there are at least two guys claiming "complete" restoration of the PL400 and they are not replacing the board with Joe's or adding the "Gepetto Mod"???

It doesn't take much to "restore" a 400- to how it came out of the factory. Now, if they start yappin about "upgrades" that's when i hit the "Send message to Seller" button.

Here are some pics of the 400 I got for $159.99 shipped. Looks pretty much unmolested but a little salty. What size screws do I need to get, and does anyone use stainless, or just plain old screws?

It looks like someone removed and reinstalled the outputs, they are sitting on Silipads. I also see capacitors on the transistor wall and diodes that are not typical. As Joe pointed out, those Sangamo power supply bulk capacitors are not any good.

A variac will limity voltage, but not current. A variac used in conjunction with a DBT will cover the bases. A 5 amp won't dim all the house lights at once, so if you want to do more than amp test a 10 is better, then again a 5 won't kill a lot of equipment.

Sutton, I would definitely bid on the third one on your list. It is a 20 Amp Variac and the bid is still low. The shipping is a little high but that thing is heavy.

Plus it is close to you I think, you might be able to drive over and pick it up.

It would only be about a 6 or 7 hour drive for me. I live way down in the western tip of the state. It is about 6 hours to Richmond, and about 3 hours to Roanoke. I am closer to Knoxville, TN than about any other "major" city..UNfortunate as it is..
I'm only about an hour from Kingsport, Bristol and Johnson City TN.

The hold down screws on the outputs are a #6 screw thread. Ed Blackwood sent me a bunch. Let me know if you need some.

Lee..I think that is what I bought. #6 X 3/4". I haven't tried them yet. They are a tad shorter than the stock ones
...but we'll see. I think they'll work..

If you'll notice on the ionside, a tad shorterdoes not hurt a thing. AND DON"T TIGHHTEN THEM VERY TIGHT!!Take the slack out and a fraction of a turn more is all.

Don....I just sent a Papal for another protect circuit. That is the last component I need for the 400 rebuild. I hope you have one which can be sent out...

Thanks again and I'm sorry for the confusion. If I had seen the address in Papal, this would probably not been as confusing.

Sorry
