The computer is not reading the disk drive where the operation system is located.
You need to check the bios when starting your computer, hold delete when powering up, and make sure that the
hard disk where the operating system is located is listed under 1st boot drive. Also in the bios you can check storage devices
to make sure that drive is listed. If the drive is not listed then the drive is either not receiving power or is corrupted.
If it is corrupted you need to re format and re install operating system. (all data on the drive will be lost when re installing
operating system. (that's why it is recommended drives are backed up on cd's)
 
Also check the data cable to the disk drive (Sata or ribbon). You should have two connections to the drive, power and data.

A dying hard drive; e.g. lost servo tracking capability and/or degraded head(s), can cause this error as well. A reformatting won't fix those types of issues.
 
Yeah they pretty much discribed it. either a bad data cable, bad power cable to the HD or possibly a toasted HD. One other thing could be an overheated chipset with the drive port controllers although that would usually manifest itself in corrupt data.

Try the simplest things first including the data and power cables to the drive. Go into the bios and see if it recognizes the drive. If the bios detects the drive, the drive or its boot sector maybe toasted.

Most of the time a transient (blue screen of death, full loss of power) will reset the bios to their default settings, The default setting
will list the floppy disk drive (which no one uses anymore) as first boot drive.
 
If it turns out that the everything else is ruled out and all you are left with is a suspect drive, I have tools to recover data in the event of a gonzo boot sector or corrupted "active" partition from either degradation in drive functionality or by being slammed by a virus. It only makes sense to do data recovery if there is substantial files *needing* to be recovered though ...
 
If this is the one that you blew out the dust bunnies, check the cables from drive to power supply and motherboard, very easy to dislodge them. :rabbit:

I wish you luck with recovering the system boot up. Laptop drives are famous for cooking themselves because they run so hot. I recommend a cooling pad at all times as it is just too easy to suffocate the air intakes on the bottom by putting them on your lap or on a bed, frys them real quick. Also you can get cooling pads with nice padding on the bottom which makes them so much more comfortable to sit on your lap, and some have air intakes/outlets on the sides so even when you cover the bottom intake there are other channels for the air to circulate. Another thing that can happen is the rubber feet fall off the bottom of the laptop taking away that few mm of clearance preventing airflow.

My sister was having issues with her brand new laptop slowing down and shutting down so I bought her a cooling pad and that laptop has lasted way longer than it should. It just plugs into a USB and has a fairly quiet but powerful fan built in.

You will really only see that on sequential writes where the disk drive write gate kicks in. The read gate is much wider than the write gate for off track (no danger of write encroachment on reads)

A long shot but sometimes it is just the coin cell battery that holds up the configuration info and bios settings. If that craps out, the computer loses all of its stored info including boot order.

Hope you get it fixed Lee. Nothing is much more frustrating than a computer that has gone bad. Hope you had any valuable data backed up.
 
Yes Jani did, only a weeks worth of personal shit. Work intervened 2 hours ago and me and 2 full crews and 3 big trucks got to be 10 south with wheels up by 5:00 AM .. Not gonna F^%$ with a computer tonight...
 
Ok here's 1 of my puter problems:
My year-old Epson WF-3540 printer & my new Hp Pavilion HPE h8-1360t with Windows 7 Home Premium won't play nice. Can't get the printer to print from the computer. Help please!
 
First off is the printer turned on? Is the usb cable plugged into the computer? Have you ever been able to print to this printer from this computer? The printer came with an installation disk, before your computer will recognize the printer you will need to run the install disc that cazme with your printer. If you lost the doisc you can download the install file at Epsoms website.

First go to you computers comntrol panel and click on Devices and printers. Make sure your printer is visible and has a green check mark on the icon. Then you can right click o nthe icon and go to printer properties and try to do a test print.

If you don't see you printer then have you installed your printer drivers o nthe new computer? You may need install the latest printer drivers for Win 7? Do you have 32 bit win 7 or 64 bit win 7?

I would completely uninstall your printer and then download the latest HP drivers and reinstall according to the instruction manual. Usually they want you to totally install the drivers before hooking the printer up, but do the installation according to your owners manual.
