hello all.
I have started my complete overhaul of the 700-ll. It is a tried old sole but will be breathing again soon I hope.
This is a new venture for me so it may take a little time but I want to have it running after the holidays.
I got some great stuff from Dennis and Lee to help get me started as well I bought a kit from Joe a few months ago which is very impressive in its own right. Good job Joe!!!

Having followed Lee's latest builds so I said to myself what the Hell so here we go.step 1.jpgdisplay removed.jpgold control board.jpg

first step

So I cleared out all I thought necessary and started to replace the caps. I am going to use some Panasonic 18,000uf 100 volt till the group buy is delivered. The plan is to do the supply wires in #14.

Your bench is wayyyyyyyyy to neat Glen!! Love the selection of wire!!

First Problem

So the Back Plates were built for the B series. When I went to put them in they were to tight. After talking to Joe a bit I ventured out and cut about a 1/16 off each edge. This exposed the four layers of copper making up the board. I filed and the sanded the edge with 1000 grit emery to make sure the edge was clean and no copper would arc. I will clean one more time after all soldering is done then coat with epoxy and add Kapton tape to the frame as an insulator. I now have about 1/32 clearance each side to frame from Board. I hope this is now beat. Stater the board assembly with some of Dennis's gadgets to help with the standoff soldering.

I was able to use both of my the soldering pencil irons at once to preheat the standoff . Tip hear: keep going up the row as the board holds the heat and the job gets faster as you go.

Looking good Glen - I agree with Lee that your bench is way too neat. I like to start that way but in the end it's a bit of a mess. Good luck with the build.

just wait Lee. I just put together this from an old Receptionist setup I had donated to me so it is getting set up as we go. I had to take out the center section and but the sides together, but it came out pretty good I think

Ain't them standoff holders tits?????

Nice work Glen.......I see the Przems chassis wasn't the only one to suffer shrinkage...well, Joe has the answer to that too, except for the faceplate issue right now.....workin on that....

The backplanes get trimmed because the inside of the -II chassis is a smidge smaller than the B ? Nice to know if I ever get motivated to convert mine over.

Lovely bench, Glenn! Looks like a great space for your amp to be reborn.

So far, the 2 Ser II's that have been worked on exhibit this feature. From what I found with Przems it looked like the chassis were bent in the wrong place making them smaller in that dimension....maybe it was a Series wide mistake...

I have four more all the same. They must have changed supplier for the series two units
I have just finished putting epoxy in the edges so will update on how that looks later. I just put a piece of kapton tape on the edge of the frame and am going to add a piece of Teflon wire casing to the edges. The finished width at 7.270 should let it all go together.IMG_2817.jpg
