Lol I don't personally like the color with those pickups. But it is a Paul and it is beautiful but I'd be keeping that explorer IMO

If I do the trade, I have a set of original 60s chrome covers I could put on them but personally, I love the look of double creams on any dark colored Les Paul
 
Better image w/ the covered pups. This is not a Standard like the one I am looking at, it's a Classic hence the odd colored inlays

There is hardly a Gibson made since they were in Kalamazoo that can stand up to this Orville and the price is beyond right for the quality.

Definitely the best Paul I've touched in 30 years (there was one '59 flame top custom shop that came real close but when factoring in price the Orville killed it!)
 
I had an Orville Black Beauty several years ago, they are great guitars indeed. Most of my Les Paul's and Explorer's were Kalamazoo made but I also have had a few Nashville made Gibson's (including my current Explorer) which are just as good in every respect. I am a little wary of the new lines Gibson has come out with though... Traditional, Traditional Plus ect...

Yeah...I bypassed all that stuff. Had a dear friend who is no longer with us (RIP Gary) that used to find the cream of the crop of the new stuff but even he bought that Orville from me then cried after he sold it back to me.

I've saw so many horrors from the new "Custom Shops" that it was insane and from both Fender and Gibson. I'm talking about things like truss rod rattling around in their pocket......For a long time I know the Fender CS was just putting a few US things on Mexican made guitars and them "Hand Selecting" them when you called in an order.

Anyway, a quality guitar is as subjective as using Kimber Kables so I don't argue to much these days with folks.

Heck, my buddy Mike ran a shop rebuilding the old catalog guitars (Silvertone, Kay, Harmony....) into guitars that were every bit if not better than the Gibsons and Fenders of the time. It took effort but he made them into amazing "sticks" as he called them......
 
Hey Ron, did you ever have any of the early BC Rich guitars?

I've always wanted a Mockingbird with cloud inlays and full on electronics. You know, one of the ones Bernie made by hand......One of those is still on my list though I doubt it ever happens.
 
Man... i was looking around a couple weeks ago to see if there were any Mockingbirds for sale locally. That is one thats on my list too. Of course a Gibson Les Paul would be great too. I like my epi but it aint a Gibson.

Search out the Orville's like I posted above. They are the only Gibson's that are produced outside of the US. They are made in Japan and fully authorized by Gibson USA. They were for Japan sale only but with the interwebz they can be found most anywhere. The quality is there and the price is more than right. The one in the pic has a one piece mahogany neck a two piece mahogany body and a nice maple cap. They can usually be found for under $1k ( or at least they used to be). I see no reason to pay for a US Gibson of lesser quality.
