Been a while for this thread ...

What the hell is going on?

Untitled.jpg

The Shell station in town dropped to $1.97 for a gallon of regular unleaded this morning. Shell tends to be some of the most expensive gas around.

If these futures hang in there, I'm betting we see prices around these parts - back down to $1.75 or less for the cheaper brands.

Electric cars don't use as much, so they can't sell as much.

New tax proposed for electric vehicles here in CT since they don't pay any fuel tax. Even if you have solar panels on your roof for "free" power, you still get to pay the tax. Isn't that awesome!

That is ridiculous and that should be repealed. These theives or I mean politicians need to be put in their place- they attach taxes anywhere they want. I say take all taxes off as I never agreed to any of them. $2.32 in Chicago outside of crooked Cook County.

New clean vehicle registration taxes are popping up all over the country. One kicked in here in Arkansas recently. Electrics and hybrids don't contribute at the same level as full-on combustion engine vehicles ... yet they use the same roads. Can't speak about other States, but gas taxes go towards road down here, so I get the calculus.

That said, taxes are socialism - like it or not.

Broken beyond repair but highly affable
I know the price of crude hurts, but since I haven't owned a car since 2007.

PS Tony, it's that the Chinese have that coronavirus and aren't trading much right now and their citizens aren't allowed to move about due to quarantines.

OTOH your stock market results should be dandy today.

Our elected representatives decided it was a good idea, so they’re doing it.

You get a cool internet-connected electric meter on the cord you charge your car with and that data goes straight to the pocket, er, I mean the governing body who decides what you get to pay in tax. So, even your solar panels back-feeding the grid can’t help you.

Brilliant implementation!

They should contribute more since the total pollution cycle is higher for electrics than gas vehicles.

Gas down to $1.71 yesterday afternoon. Trump says this is a good thing for the consumer. He also said, he was ordering the government to top off the reserve supply tanks. But he didn't offer any solution or compassion for the refineries or the guys in the field still drilling.

A news article from last night's debate was cause for alarm to the domestic oil industry. If I heard it correctly, both candidates were in favor of shutting down all off shore and land base oil drilling in the U.S. Now I know why Trump could be reelected with that campaign nonsense from the democrats.

These Democraps are full of garbage ideas and nothing to do with reality. If they get in and try some of that stuff well then they can expect a fight on their hands- You get these old geezers that have no hold on reality just a lot of money to run with and they just will make matters worse.
Maybe if they get in it will be time to look for a country that treats it's people well. Australia might need a tape deck technician down under.
It might be a good idea to get rid of all politicians at this point as none of them do us any good just cost us money. Now I will most likely vote the Fuhrer again but the Democraps have not had a good person for some time now- the smart people do not want that job.

Big drop this morning in Arkansas - Hitting low $1.70's in the metro areas, low $1.60's in the surrounding areas. Neighboring Texas has hit a low of $1.50 a gallon.

$1.75 in a couple of spots in Chattanooga. $1.81 around the corner.

I know I'm speaking to a mostly anti-tax crowd and to some extent I'm tired of taxes too. But I've got no issue with making EVs and hybrids pay for the roads we build for them; the tax just needs to be equivalent to the gas taxes paid by hydrocarbon-based vehicles. I personally think the bulk of gas taxes are nothing more than welfare for road-builders and I'll be glad to argue whether our gas tax dollars are well spent or not. But by amortizing the cost of building and maintaining roads across all of us (gas taxes), we pay less than letting the for-profit sector sell it to us at outrageous prices like Big Pharma does our meds.

Just to throw another idea out there, I think we should convert hunting/fishing licenses to recreation licenses. Those who use the streams, rivers, hiking and biking trails, mountains and (public) beaches (which are currently maintained and protected by MY hunting/fishing license and state/national park pass revenue) need to contribute equally to protecting these resources. Don't care if it's kayaks on a trout stream or rock climbers on a mountain or hikers in a state park or bass fishing on a lake or hunting deer; if you use the resource, you need to contribute to its protection and sustainability for future generations.

If they even let us go. I'm supposed to have an appointment at the kidney clinic in the morning and I guess it's still happening but things get weirder every time I turn the radio or TV on.

No McDonalds I suppose :(
