Ok, since no one else stepped up ... I'll be that guy! :p

First off: That's a Yoko studless, snow tire. I would imagine the critical side-wall is stiff as F!
Secondly: I find it more intriguing and not so much funny, in concept. Why? Because we can't see the back and it very well may be open.
Thirdly: You can't judge what you can't see - meaning - unless some of you guys actually scored X-ray specs from the back of a Mad magazine (way back when... LOL), no one can judge what - if any - bracing has been introduced inside.
Lastly: How the driver is 'crossed over' would be pretty important. No?

(all of this assumes this was an actual proof of concept and not just a conversation piece... of course)

Open back designs can work - just saying...


And as always -- Don't flame, taze or tariff me .. Bro! :laughing8:

No exactly true. My bad for not being articulate. A single driver, notch cross-over could help with matching compliance between the drive and the greater structure.

It's just not going to reproduce above a certain frequency. I guess a filter would keep HF out of it but other than some voice coil heat I don't think it would be a problem for that big speaker..

A tweeter, on the other hand, for sure needs protection. But that can be an incandescent light bulb...

I think the preponderance of discussions regarding notch and pass-filters tend to address more standard applications (cabinets and such...) & not something as esoteric as a tire. That said, low-order notching doesn't exclude applicability in the realm of tackling resonances, weird-ass harmonics or strange behaviors that deter from achieving 'flatness' in terms of frequency response.

If I had a big-ass garage, I'd think it would be cool to have a pair of those looking all road-worthy; assuming they do the job and do it well enough.

All-in-all, an interesting 'tread' lightly topic for discussion ... ;)
 
Look, I think we can all agree that that tire is in fantastic condition, so it stands to reason that the sound coming from it is going to be great.
