With lots of clean power you can wail a lot more than you think. Like I said I can clip a 400 on the K's, but I haven't clipped a 700 on em yet...
A question about that...

IF if is claimed that a WOPL converted PL700 reaches 1000 watts, it represents about 143% increase in power. I have an FC WOPL PL400/II- am I getting 570 watts out of this baby (285 watts/ channel)?

The LED output meters are seriously inaccurate now!

Mark, Lee tested mine out to 252 wpc.
Good enuff!

For the most part I don't blast the stereo- usually 20-60 watts during the evening (according to my now woefully inaccurate meters).

I have room lamps connected to the same wall outlet as the amp- and they dim in time with the bass thumps.

I always liked this part.....

The first thing we must learn is that the VU meter is a dreadful liar… It is an averaging meter, and so it cannot indicate true peaks, nor can it protect us from overload.

Mark, I've tested 700's between 438 to 525 wpc into 8 ohms with both channels driven. The factory claimed 450 at clipping. My above figures were at clipping also..I doubt very seriously you could run a 700 at 500 wpc for long. But, it's still nice to have some haedroom.

Lee, if you don't mind me asking, what are you using for your 8 Ohm load. I need something but it needs to be robust to handle a WOPL's power. Thanks

Perry,

I believe Lee is using an original Phase Linear factory BPI dummy load he obtained from a certain someone.

That certain someone has another available, if you are interested.

FWIW, folks over on AK talk about using heater elements and a pail of water. Not sure if they are water heater elements or oven elements

does performing the Load Test into a purely resistive load represent the true capacity of the amp?
There's been a lot of discussion of that over the years. Actually sine wave testing takes the amps to places it would not normally go. That's why the service manual says you might need some 8 amp rail fuses.
