Well......I finally made some progress on my DIYtube ST35. I got the iron pulled from the Dynaco ST35 and mounted on the chassis and all the other terminals mounted on the chassis. I got the board stuffed and soldered. Now I just have to finish up with the wiring and the fun will begin. :thmbsp:

If that's an OLD chassis, I've never seen one so clean (even after the dishwasher)...

Jerry - I'll have to tally it up and let ya know. I believe Triode Electronics (where I got the chassis) sells a complete kit for between $400-$500.

Orange - That's a brand new stainless steal chassis

Larry - No, but it's indiviually biased for each tube so matching is no longer a must. There's a small pot for each tube, two to a side on the board. They are blue.
 
I have to bias mine also. Why wouldn't you still want to match the tubes? Isn't there more into matching the tube than what would affect your bias? Do you have all your tubes? If not let me know and I'll get you some prices.

Well..., the wiring is not quite as pretty as I'd like but it's done. :banana:

I may go back and redo some of it at a later date. The testing will begin soon...

I just have her setting in the bottom. I still have to get a few screws for the bottom and remove the protective film from the sides.

So is the forum. Glad you got her together and singing always fun to have a great sense of accomplishment from putting parts together to make something functional. :cheers:
 
If you want I have some silver plated 99% OFC copper wire. I don't know what I paid for it. Its yours if you wold like to try it. I also have some silver solder 3% it is a used roll but it is yours. What brand tubes did you use?

A very generous offer that I'd be a fool to say no to.

I am using a new matched quad of Russian made EL84 (printed in Russian) that I got off ebay a few years ago as everyone was saying how great they sound. I do like them and expect they will get better with use also. The 12AX7 is a us made GE iirc and is branded a Heath.The 12AU7 is a US made National branded tube.
 
Tell us if it makes a difference. How many WPC are you pushing? On the power tubes what other tubes could you roll?

The low mids sound better and "tighter". The highs seam a bit "airier".

Roughly 15 wpc.

I can use any EL84, 6BQ5 or 7189 for power tube rolling.

Well, it's been a year now and I have finally done my first "upgrade". Tonight I replaced the Orange Drops with Russian KY40 PIO caps. Sounds nice so far.

This little amp is a keeper. :cheers:

Tubes are all about point to point wiring ain't they. Nice work Paul. You should have no problem with a White Oak conversion.
