Derek's Speaker Series/Parallell/Impedance Quandry

I own a small piece of 110 of them. And no, my gasa is not free.

It's back to BBQ now, G.

Ok, I have read through this thread and there is no way to split it into coherent thoughts? The subject matter drifts like the wind or should I say one of Lee's farts. :laughing9:

Caryy on as I have no intention of trying to sort this mess out. I'll only say why does everyone want to listen to loud music? I usually listen to my music at low levels so my sound system needs to sound good with the volume control at 8 o clock. If you have you volume turned up to 11 and you are hearing distortion it could very well be you speakers and not your amp and there is much more latitude between great speakers and torpedo speakers then between a wopl and a Pio 9500. I have a pio 9500 and mine sounds fine on my speakers. In my estimation an Wopl is just going to burn through your 3 pair of speakers in about 10 minutes max.:laughing9:

My average volume is 8 to 9 oclock on the 9500s amps, turning it up to 11 oclock is rare, maybe for 1 song here and there once every now and then. I am looking for a more serious amp with headroom which is why I am getting the wopl, then it will be some decent speakers. Only the 12's will be hooked up to the wopl and run at a very conservative level to begin with. I'd rather save for a wopl than get this second 9500s repaired, all up both these pioneer amps owe me $85, time for some serious power and headroom I think.

Actually, I would freak if I witnessed a pair of speakers with their guts hanging out from cranking it and a transient discursion hit. I doubt with all the power on tap with the Larrt WOPL 1000 I would get to that point. It is coming time for me to return Doug's PL 700B, after I arrange for a date to meet with him. I will be sorry to see this amp go. There are a lot of good qualities which are synonymous with a powerful amplifier. Do I go to 11 and beyond? Rarely, unless I have company over and we are in the back yard or on the sundeck. And that's the Canadian way.

Nando.

You get used to it after a while Nando....
Nearly ALL of my speakers have been there some time or other.
Here's one I 'prepared' earlier...

It's the only way to find their limits! :confused2:

.... and that's the Australian way. Heh heh heh. :laughing9:

You just lost another star off that energy rating george :laughing9:

that was the last one, too!
damn!

Steal one from your washing machine or fridge then, you need all the reserves you can get.
Got my power bill yesterday, $350 for 3 months, no complaints there, much cheaper than summer bill of $550+

hmmmm.... never thought of that!
yep! the fridge has two stars left. i'll grab one of them....

if the sun could get to my place, i'd go solar in a flash.
.... but the sun just doesn't shine here. :(

The only sun that comes in here is from the window opposite the staircase, and its never direct. I have the windows covered up on the ground floor, true man cave style, the internet router makes a good night light, strobe light if its transferring heavily.

yeh, i'm pretty much in the dark too.
no lights on at night, except one 25w in the kitchen behind me.
the rest is from my monitors, (or sometimes my TV when it's on) or occasionally a desk lamp if i'm solderin' or somethin'.
.... and some solar garden lights around the cat box out in the 'patio' (which i recharge every two days), otherwise it's only the day time when i can actually see where i'm going in here.
(*Note: Don't live in a place with huge sliding glass doors...)
I do so miss the sun here. :(

Where on that continent can you get away from the sun? :laughing9: Is everything all electric? My electricity bill ranges from $50 a month in winter to $100 a month in summer. Natural gas bill ranges from $100 a month in the dead of winter to about $25 a month in summer. In my part of the world my furnace, stove and water heater run off gas and my a/c and all appliances run off of electricity. Electricity runs about .10 per killowatt hour here.

Its just over 30 cents per kwh here and they just more than doubled the fixed "supply fee" just to add more pain. To make it worse I live in a complex which only has 1 meter per unit so that means no off-peak hot water, you have to have 2 meters to get that and apparently there isn't enough room in the meter box, and it costs a lot of money to get one installed anyway.

yeh, wot he said....

they shaft us somethin' shockin' here in Oz, and then they expect you to pay carbon tax on top.
THEN they (parliament-friggin-tarians go and give themselves a freakin' pay rise for doin' it.
.... and the morons in this country just swallow it. Gutless wonders, and the price doubles annually.
WTF.....

I can't get any sun where I live as my apartment is at the bottom of a block of 100, and my windows face the south, so the sun never gets overhead for me as I'm constantly in the shade of the building.
I so hate it, as there's nowhere in the complex even in the way of a community garden area that gets any sun, so my poor kitties have had to readjust to living indoors 24/7, and that just breaks my heart.
I'd sell ALL my audio junk, if it would mean being able to find somewhere else, but the expenses of that would far outweigh anything I could scrape together for too little time, as the cost of housing or rentals for a single chap of my age on my income would be too prohibitive, so wot do ya do??

Wait for a freakin' miracle, that's wot.
.... but 'they' say, all good things come to those who wait. (doesn't really work tho'.)

Damn, now I've gone and upset myself again..... sh*t!

Off to bed.....

The weekend is here! Just cracked that first beer and reading up on posts. Feel like a vegetable, tired, but the music is keeping me awake. Get down and boogie (as still as possible) :laughing9:
