Still air Joe. If I doubled the fin density, would i get better cooling through increased convection, or would that density moment begin to restrict the cooling effect.

I can get an answer for you Lee.

My early answer is that if you doubled it you would pick up a portion of the theoretical surface area gain but not all of it due to boundary layer affecting the delta T. For example if you doubled the fin area by putting another fin in for each existing fin, you would probably only achieve something like 1.5-1.7x instead of 2x due to that boundary layer.

This one had the "Crotch Rocket" outputs. Been mulling a little test over in the grey area, a set of complementary 2SD555/2SB600's on one channel and the MJ21195/21196 pairs in the other...then just drive them to destruction and see who sits atop the smoking, ruined pile!!!

When I was researching the 400 relay board I did multiple failures of the 400 to see the circuit response. To get the temp hot enough I had to use only one xistor in each stack and then keep the srews loose. Otherwise it took at least 30 minutes to fail.

2 questions Sir Joe.....1- If the old 9800 mf PS caps pass the leakage test, and exhibit no visible signs of impending doom, and I lessened the load on them by half, AND kept them in their own ballistic enclosure, they should work, No??

You mean there will be no volume pots? I can live with that. You did say a while back its better without them for sound quality.

The E-lam transformer on the left is what I just took out. The 2 toroids on the right would take its place. A doubling of the current and a doubling of the PS caps.....

And there are 2 primary windings, each 120 volt. Wired in series is 240 volt.

Toroids are more efficient so I am told. The step down transformer I was planning to purchase had one of them in it. Looks like I won't need a step down now. Toroids would keep me happy

Voltage on the grid varies here, usually sits stable between 244 and 252, has never affected any of my gear etc, highest I have seen is 265, lowest 234. I assume your grid would be similar only around the 120 mark.

Pretty robust. We'd need a spot 13 inches in the vertical plane, and 19 inches in the horizontal plane. And then the power supplies of course. They can be on the floor in the back....
