I been looking into these Crown Drivecore amps. The power and price point caught my attention. I believe there is a dealer for these amps out where my brother lives. Anyone heard anything good or bad about these amps? I guess worst case scenario it would always be a decent back up amp somewhere down the road when I no longer "need" a second amp. Been searching high and low to find something to replace the 1801 that was removed from the setup not long ago.

Any thoughts? Recommendations?

Yes it is a power amp Daren. I forgot to post the link in my original post.

Im in need of something. These look to a suitable temporary solution. Based simply on price and power output. I cant even be bothered with anything that is less than 200wpc.

Thanks Ben.

I'm not familiar with Crown stuff but the specs look very healthy. Any other contenders?

As of right now.... No. Im trying to stay under the 500 dollar range. I was looking for used gear mainly before my brother came across these amps. If pricing is similar to what I have seen online I may just bite the bullet and get one. As I mentioned, even if not quite what im looking for, power, sound stage wise, then it could become a backup amp.

Plus is the lightweight, negative the heightened noise floor. I would not use one of these for a serious home system but for a DJ setup or casual party system, no problem. It would seem it's greatest strength would be for driving subwoofers. The higher models also seem to have a lower noise floor but the fan is a complaint with some also as it's pretty loud. One review I came across praised the dynamics

I currently run 1 of these,

Im not going to be real picky with what I can get. I need to find something. Reasonably priced power amps even used are hard to find around these parts. Ive been watching for some time. My heart is not set on one, although its definitely in consideration.

Does that amp handle 8ohm loads? I just see 2 and 4 mentioned. Looks pretty ballsy

The switch only allows for 2 and 4 ohm loads. I run mine at 4ohms currently running on a set of these,

I typically power these speakers with an 1801, and a set of 901's with the AP800. Both of my 1801's are out of service now though... its the amp in my avatar.

The AP800 is a decent amp with lots of mojo but, its 20 years old now, and is developing issues of its own.

Well, at least 200 per channel... minimum. I was on the hafler site looking at the p4000. Ebay unfortunately is not really an option for me when it comes to power amps. Especially with the added cost of shipping, and the possibility of shipping issues. I prefer to audition power amps especially used ones.

I didn't know that Rockford quit building them.

I didnt know rockford was building them in the first place. :laughing9:

Wow, the XLS drivecore 1000 is even less that the site I was looking at before.

What is drop ship?

Thats a very kind offer of you to do that for a member Larry. I will keep that in mind. My brother will be checking his local music pro some time this week for me to inquire their price off the shelf. If I may ask, what kind of a discount do you receive?
