G - he probably has the original plates as he pulled them and replaced 'em with the new face plates. I suspect you can strike a deal.
FUCK I love that picture. I would be in heaven
I couldn't be happy with a knockoff on an original amp.
I'll keep looking…..
Thanx anyway.
Knockoff???? My customers have no issues when they get a new face plate on a fresh Clair WOPL and they get the old beat up original to hang on the wall.
So in your eyes a WOPL is a knockoff of a real amp and not worth a fuck?????
I think the reference was to a non- original faceplate, not necessarily the amp itself. Lots of people like to stay true to OEM as possible, and anything aftermarket is "knockoff" in their eyes.
But... after the WOPL conversion... there's really not much original electronics other than the transformer and VU meters- so what's the crime? To tell you the truth, your work looks outstanding- they're works of art! I wish you had enough demand for the 400 Series II to justify your setup and manufacturing expense- I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
In fact, if I could just get a little stick- on metal badge with a White Oak logo on it I'd be pleased. If it weren't for recent truck repairs, (nah- I promised myself I'd do a speaker upgrade instead of more electronics) I'd love to have one of your 700s.
Perry, George ( pennysdad) is WELL AWARE of WOPLness, in fact he was instrumental in getting D2's carcass to me from Australia. He provided the carcass and shipping to get it here....a good man by any measure...
He's technically correct, they are knockoffs....highly SUPERIOR KNOCKOFFS, but knockoffs nonetheless....

Actually they are White Oak Audio originals...recent market pricing has shown they are more valuable![]()
