Clair Bros Amp

The units look very clean. Ed is right about Hawian air being salty and wet but those look like they have been well looked after. PM me please what you may want to sell. My 500D is looking for a mate

The units in the roller cases look to be pretty decent. The parts units (700 series 2's) are anodized aluminum so outside of the transformer covers (which I strip and paint except for the serial number plate) should have faired well.

Grapplesaw, I am interested in selling the 500. I'll probably throw in the parts unit too. We'll see what they look like when they arrive on the 14th. We can deal then. I'll also be selling a few series 2's so keep your feelers out. I can build to suit or sell them outright.

consecutive serial numbers

Just went through the inventory and I see there is several units with consecutive serial numbers. I know some guys like to have consecutive serial numbers. Having Clair Units with numbers might be special. I'll try to keep them together during clean up/resto/sales. 2 sets have 5 consecutive serial numbers, others have sets of 2-3.... Pretty cool. Now hopefully the cargo ship doesn't get caught in a typhoon.....

I did a little research on D 500 amps..... Damn, they are expensive even missing parts...

Not worth it in my book though. I do have 2 coming for repairs...

As far as the 700 Series II's, what can I do to these (with minimal cash outlay) to get them up and cranking? I figure Big caps, backplane transistors, rebuild the control boards.

Yup, forgot about that. Can we use the 95 and 96 transistors on the backplane without any other mods?

If they are fully comp yes, do they have 15024's and 25's in there now?

The MJ15024's would be TP9054's (TP are the initials for Terry Pennington) and DB15025 (DB are the initials for Dennis Bohn).

By the time Phase Linear introduced the PRO 700's they only used the NEC 2SD555's and 2SB600's or the Sanken 2SA1116's with 2SC2607's.
The Sanken's were only used for a short time. The PRO 700's did not use the Motorola MJ15024's with MJ15025's.
I also have a rare copy of the PRO 700 parts list to confirm this.

Although the Motorola's may have spec'd out better on paper, Phase Linear found the NEC's to be more reliable.

I am looking at replacing all the outputs so was wondering if I could use the ones we are using now for replacements.

Thanks guys.I'd love to do a full blown gut job but with this many, I'd need to rob a bank. Maybe just one at a Time. That would keep me busy for a while.

The trucker has my Clair Amps and should be in Atlanta tomorrow for my pick up in Alabama Friday. My back is gonna hurt. 1800lbs of amps and parts.... OUCH......

Been there, done that. We rented a U-Haul for Lee's amps when I picked them up. I loaded them all in the truck and then unloaded and stacked them in my garage so that was double handling LMAO!!!! 3600lbs
