Ok I'm still shopping for parts for my preamp. All you techies tell me what you think. I have some Solens. I am also looking at some Silver and oil Mundorfs. Yes I know a little spendy. Would it be worth the price to do it right the 1st time and never wonder if it could be better.

The is the tubes4hifi pre, correct...SP-12....?

I've not used the Mundorff but have never heard or read anything bad. You could always start with some nice Russian PIO's if you don't want to spend the money right off the bat.

Yepper. I emailed the guy and he gave me a smart remark. He said you can use Mundorf silvers and oil if you want the best. I looked at the one he did for a guy and that is what he used. Along with a nice TKD attenuator for the volume. So I was wondering. I'm doing this little by little. Why not do the Mundorfs.

OK let me put it a different way. If you never wanted to do another upgrade on your pre. Would the cost to sound ratio be worth the added expense? Of going with the Munfords. Or would you choose another brand.

Thanks
Larry

What are trying to accomplish?? A certain sound, or so dangblasted neutra ya can't tell what it is?? Caps are a whole can worms. They have different sounds based on the storage media and electrolye(for electro's anyway), this is what I have been told and based on experience there are differences, some subtle, some not. What are special about the M undorfs??

Neutral would be good. LOL Guess I will find out what the sound will be like. One day. I went with Black Gates on the PL and that worked pretty good.

Hard to go wrong with the Black Gates, ya did good there. Are they all electrolytic in the pre-amp?? With all the different types of small signal caps, I wouldn't know where to start.

Yes; but there is like only 10 to 15 caps on the board. So it isn't bad. And I have the all the resistors changed to the wire wounds. Going to do the volume pot I linked to you.

Just going to take my time doing it.

I'd say to go ahead and put the Mundorfs in the critical positions like coupling and just use a good quality cap in other areas or just put the Mundorfs everywhere and be done.

The nice Russian pio's are hard to beat for the price but if you do not want to tinker on it again you might want to go to the recommend "best" by the maker.

A coupling cap connects two stages of an amp or two different parts of an audio circuit. Not an all inclusive answer but it's a start.

LOL any coupling connects two parts. He put Sonicaps at my outputs. OK what is a radial cap? Do they stand on end and have a + and -?
