I used Hovland Musicaps in a Dynaco amp several years ago. The cost was reasonable for the .1uF 400V caps and they were not huge! They are performing exactly as advertised, nicely coupling the plate of the pre-amp tube to the grid of the output tube without passing the DC of the plate voltage, just the audio signal. I think that is how the tubes work.

So you are probably talking about the 10uF bypass caps used with the input tube cathode resistors in the ultra-linear pre-amp designs. This is a RC network to filter the DC supply to the tube. I have heard of even larger caps, up to 250uF for power amps, to bypass the output tube cathode resistors. These caps are not in the signal path, so they are not critical to the sound as long as they are robust enough to handle the applied voltages.

Plus I needed a radial. I have all the other SIO . So I am hoping this is a very nice preamp when I'm done. Got the RCS clear top tubes coming and just received the RCA rectifier tube.
