Unless you are using electrolytics in your crossovers, which you are not, the polypropylene itself will be just fine. Your speakers will have mechical limitations that will come into play long before (that is, at lower frequencies) the ESR characteristics of a polypropylene cap come into play.

Bypass is used in circuit design because the electronics often has response out in the multi-megahertz range where these ESR characteristics come into play.

That is why you do not see bypass on the main capacitive elements in a speaker crossover.

On the other hand, it does no harm.

JBL have been using bypass caps for about 30 years now.
I was reading the following thread, (and all associated threads), here:
http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?3555-Bypassed-and-Biased-Capacitors
It's no wonder I'm so confused....

It says they were using non-polar electrolytics, which most do for the large values they have in this schematic.

My earlier comment began with "Unless you are using electrolytics in your crossovers..."

You said you are using a 1uF Polypropylene, different kettle of fish.

Thank God for people like you.....

Well, I'm all excited now....
I have a mate that's currently eating his way across the USA, and just before he left, I asked him if he could find me a pebble from anywhere, to bring home to me.
Well, I'm happy to announce, I'll soon be in the possession of a Pebble from Utah (somewhere.)
It can sit on the shelf with my other pebbles from around the world.
Yes, it doesn't take much to make my day...... :bounce:

Ya know BD - I could've sent you a rock a long time ago. Didn't know that's what blew your skirt up!

normally it's something I used to do when touring. I'd always pick up a pebble from somewhere.
a memento wotever...
trouble is, I never labelled 'em, and now that the brain has faded, I have a hard time telling them apart. after a while, they all start to look alike! (I hope I'm not offending any rocks out there. I'd hate to be guilty of 'stereotyping' them....)

Just thought I'd be my normal smart ass self. My wife does the same thing - with pebbles that is.

You're right - after some time passes they start looking the same unless there's something unique to the pebble that corresponds to the area where you collected it.

Wow! I'm not alone? Most interesting.
You find 'em in the most unusual 'pebble free' places.
I remember finding one on the footpath outside the Empire State Building. Not another pebble in sight. Just laying there. Where did it come from? If pebbles could only talk! :laughing9:
.... and one outside Buckingham Palace! ..... and one at the Vatican in Rome! .... and one from that big round place in Rome but that one was easy to explain as the whole thing was built from pebbles.

Got bored today so I re-stacked a few things.
Doesn't sound 'arf bad!

I just needed to get my JansZen Electrostats (on the bottom) out of the bedroom, and that was the only place for 'em.

Damn dude - I'm speak poor but getting ass deep in amps. Maybe you'll rock the house down - could be a huge pebble collection in there!

:binky:(binkey) :jerk: (my fav) :book: (who's this?)

my ambition is to hold this place to ransom for free rent for the rest of my life, otherwise I'll blast the foundations through the roof (7 floors up). :laughing9:
I've got SEVEN 15" speakers hidden behind that lot in the photo. :hiding:

Great idea - I think you could huff and puff and blow it down with that line up!

Impressive photo! I see you have a friendly energy rating sign hanging there, HA! Secure those pebbles or they will rattle!

plus I keep forgetting that the whole lot is actually sitting on a pair of JansZen Z900 Electrostatic with the twin 12" bass drivers.
they're always covered as they have the black piano finish.
I'll lift their skirts to try and take a shot shortly...

I'm excited - lifting skirts gets me moving. Gotta get that special shot - can't wait!
