BASF Chrome Cassette Tape

Is anyone familiar with this tape? I am thinking of buying 100 of these tapes. At the price of less than 50 cents per tape, it seems too good to be true. I can't figure out if this guy is making his own cassettes, or if they are BASF brand tapes, but either way......seems too good to be true. Let me know your thoughts, as I probably will buy out of curiosity to see if they are as advertised..

I bought a bunch of them. I sold a bunch also. They are the last of the BASF tape for loading. Good chrome tape for today.It isn't the NOS pancakes of their own tapes.

So, are these tapes ready to put in a cassette deck and record and play, or are they pancakes? I'm confused. I want to just buy tapes ready to rock and roll...Are these them? Are they truly chrome tapes? Are they good? I don't want to waste $50.00 to find out they aren't any good, or that I have bought something which isn't plug and play..

They are chrome cassettes. Good as in reference to what? OK yes. For the money. The people I sold them to used them for high speed dubbing. You are not getting an older BASF tape for that price. I really don't want to tell you no and I don't want to tell you yes. Less than 0.50 each you can always have back ups.There are no cases or any thing you are getting 100 tapes.

As Larry said you are getting 100 shells with type II tape in them, you are not getting Norelco cassette cases or J-cards. Sorry I don't have any experience with this particular tape, but you generally get what you pay for, which is a .44 cent cassette tape.

I'm just having a hard time. What is the best chrome tape? I'm not going to play the cases or the cards, just the tape. Did BASF chrome tape quality suffer in later years? Is there a really good tape? What about Maxell XL-II? Is that better tape? I did manage to buy 10 Blue Labels from Larry, but I need to have a few more than ten tapes, and I'm just trying to find something afordable and really good..Any help is appreciated..

A good type II is a Denon HD-8. I can get my Blue labels rather quickly. But I have to buy a minimum. Don't jump so fast.The tape world is still out there. It isn't going any where.I don't think Alan believes I am going to stop selling Phoenix tapes.Buy 1 or 2 of different tapes see what you like. Down at the bottom of the intro page is 2 tape dealers. Go to their sites and see what you want to try.

I can send you some TDK, Maxell, and Fuji type II tapes for a minimal cost. Try them and if you like them,then seek out more on ebay. :)

Yes the quality went down on all manufacturers tapes in the 90's and again in the 00's. Cost cutting you know.

That would be great. Let me know how much money to end you. You can PM me, and we can discuss. I'd love to try a bunch of different ones, to decide THE BEST cassette tape to my ear. I really need to fall into a nice Yammie or Pioneer deck in addition the the Hitachi. I really can't wait to compare different high dollar decks and tapes to see what is the bet. I remember buying tones of tapes in the day, and seems Maxell, Fuji, and BASSF and TDK were among the ones I loved. All chrome tapes. Can't remember which one was the best, but I'm thinking it was a Fuji or a Maxell. I always bought chrome, never metal and not normal.

Totally agree, if you are taping for results then don't sell yourself short by not trying higher grade tape. I do disagree about Sony Super Metal Master though - regular Metal Masters are only a skosh below the "Supers" in terms of overall performance, just like the Vertex metals not being all that much better than Maxell MX's or the Denon MX-G being only slightly better performing than the HD-M's - - on the right decks mind you.

All that said, there is still (and in stark contrast to what many of the racketeers would have you believe...) a boat-load of quality Type II's, Type I's and Metals can be had via mulitple channels for relatively low pricing. Radio Shack HD's, TDKs up the wazoo, Denons, you name it. Patience pays off when looking for good prices. Don't rush.

No belts today.Sorry. Right now he doesn't have a metal deck. Even used the tapes that were stated are going to run 25.00 to 50.00 each. Unless you find a sugar daddy.Who you can get some for free. Of coarse there is a catch.You have to have been buying from them. You can find cheap sometimes. The tape business is pretty tight bunch of people. Almost everyone knows everyone and most help each other.It isn't the smartest thing to make one of the dealers mad. We do all talk to each other. We try to help each other. I try very hard to put my personal feelings aside. There is a but. If you keep poking me in the eye.I will forget my manners. If I can help I will.
