Audio Technica AT440MLa

Well I did try a pinchy clip in various areas but that was with the ground still connected to the pre. I'll try removing it then, and then I'll retry in a couple spots.

Once your SX-1280 is back from servicing, try the turntable through the phono section to hear if there is any improvement. You aren't constrained by a need to exchange the cartridge very soon, are you?

Nando.

I have have tried more then 1 preamp but I am curious about sound through the 1280. The 1280 didn't resolve as well on most things vs the denon pre + any amp. Not that it was bad.

I'm in no hurry on the cart exchange/return, AT would certainly look at it. The main concern is where and when it's an issue, and for listening purposes, through speakers, it's not -usually.

When I tried some recording trials, the old AT70 had some hum, although lower. I think this is Likely due to being less sensitive. This is why I suspect the table/arm/wires. Frustrating as I want to get the tape going but I might end up doing mostly CD-> tape anyway...

Ive been using this since November regularly, and I'm starting to think about replacing the stylus. Seems about as much as the cart itself and I'm now considering different options. I have enjoyed it, but I think I'd like to take a step up. Concidering the 150, but not for a bit. I got Lol'd at by the wife as a fathers day gift suggestion.

Because she already bought you one, but it was the "entry" model.

Nah she steers clear of the gear, really. She doesn't know the model of anything I want. If I wrote it down, and told her where to get it, then she might. I'm going to ask her for a VPI traveler for Christmas or my b-day in feb. but that's pushing it.

Parallel Resistive Loading

http://daveyw.edsstuff.org/vinyl/loading/

I got this link in a forum awhile back, somewhere.

Truth is that this does work. I tried this last night with good results. I have only listened to a few records, but the 100k ohm resistor for the AT440mla seems to be just what the doctor ordered. Definitely smoothed out the top, which has always seemed a bit tipped toward brightness. Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" is one of my favorite jazz albums, and changing the balance has left a very positive impression on me. Cheers.

I like Birth Of The Cool also. That one and the Kind Of Blue, Bitches Brew, and Hard Bop records are a good start in the foundations of Miles Davis Jazz.

Hi Joe
Is the 100K in parallel with the 47K loading or in place of. The link you provided had the author liking 32K instead of 47K for the 440ML

Joe, I'm using a 100k ohm resistor in parallel for 32k, with the same configuration that the author suggested with the Y connectors, but I did not measure the values. However, still listening and loving it so far.

I have Birth of the cool on CD, one remastered by Mark Levinson on Cello equipment. Would be nice to compare the LP. I got into Dexter Gordon this year, managed to find some decent LP's. One Flight Up is amazing to me.
