Well of course it was supposed to be funny.....if ya have to question that, maybe it wasn't funny...

Ok back to the discussion

I got the XP machine running again. No internet due a certification problem( fix that later I guess)

Now to install the NI Gpib to usb adaptor.
I have Gpib card as well. It kills the machine if I do not have the connected devices running. I guess there is a power drain So would prefer to use the usb one.

I find that the machine has labView 8.6 installed. The scripts from AP are for labView 5.1 which runs up to 8.2.1.
I have to look for a earlier labview or figure out how to migrate it to 8.6.

Some details here

Update for today
Got the Xp machine running and lost license due to repair install.

Has anyone worked with the newer labview softwsre? We can get a student version of last years release for cheap.

I got the Gpib to usb installed and guess its time in my life to learn some programming

Just pulled my Nak BX-300 out of moth balls and I also received my calibrations tapes from Canada.
(... and these cal tapes from our friends to the North are like $7.50 USD each, which is stupendous.)

This is why Nakamichi is so revered !

And here's my measurements using the cal tape:

And here's my measurements using a Sony HF-X normal bias tape:

This ATS-1 was a smart purchase...

Pretty much. The person that I scored this one from said it had probably less than 60 hours on it.

I knew it was killer (by ear...) as soon as I hooked it up and played a Metal Master recorded on my primary Sony deck.
The Dolby C tracked with perfection, which is no small feat between decks ... especially with a Nak.

Between the recording on one deck and played back on the other?

Yeah.

Dolby tracking is touchy business between decks for a bunch of different reasons. And Nak's are especially finicky with cross-compatibility due to their head geometry and because of their unique EQ style. That's why when we do traveling tapes & tape exchanges, we usually opt to do so with No Dolby.

Not sure how to tackle FR with this ATS-1.

I've got it and that 'Handbook' you recommended. I need to print that s h ! t out and make a binder ... like you.

Yeah, that way you dog ear the fuckin pages ya go back and forth on. I find myself referring to things I had already read, to understand things I was reading...

Did I email you Metzlers book?? Or did you buy that one?

Yeah, that's the 'Handbook' I was referring to ...

It's available on the interwebs for free and is a super clean PDF, so it will print nice.

FR on anything but a tape deck is pretty straight forward...
