Lee, I just finished a shipping carton for the 3300 and on Saturday, I'll send it from Sumas. Inside the box will be some books, two for you and likewise for Jerry. I don't have his address so was hoping you can get them to him.
I wanted to give you both something for the help and generosity you've shown. I get that gratitude and appreciation is it's own reward but I really wanted to give something tangible.
What I'll be including are parts 1 & 2 of a trilogy (#3 is a work in progress) written by a good friend of mine. He self publishes and book 1 was one of the most downloaded on Amazon.
I hope you guys enjoy a good read. If you get around to reading them, I'd be interested in what you thought. I think my friend would too.

Sounds like you read what I do, everything but heavy on the scifi. These are neither and the first book was hard to categorize. I first read it in manuscript form and he asked me what genre I thought it was. The second is sort of contemporary historical fiction. He had to do a fair bit of research for that one and there wasn't much documented on what he was writing about. I remember him telling me that after the book was out, he got correspondence from people saying that his getting close to the mark was surprising because the subject was so little known.
EDIT: This friend introduced me to one of his compatriots when I went to a lecture. Her name is Helga Zeiner and one of her books is Section 132, about child's brides in a fringe Morman sect. Listening to her explain how she did the research made me buy the book. I thought it was excellent and still think about it a year later.

Ok Gary, unboxed the 3300. Put my signal generator through every input, tuner, aux, tape 1, tape 2 and phono. scoped the outputs , both switched and unswitched. Something wrong with the phono section but the rest looks good...I scoped all the way through the SS output relay and things are great there. I have not hooked it up to an amp yet but from the o'scope traces it looks real good.
I'll get the phono section straightened out and send er back...

Changed the OPA 2134 phono op amp out with a JRC 5532 and the phono section cleaned right up. I'll now put it on the AP and check a few things...

Thanks Lee but it's odd that it didn't exhibit any issues for you. When it quit, it was hooked up in the system with TAPE PHONO and TUNER and I tried all those sources. But since it seemed "dead" I hauled it out to where the light was better and used a discman as a signal source. I plugged that into both the AUX and TUNER inputs and used headphones because there was no amp or speakers handy and got nada. And I know the discman works.
Years ago when I first started selling audio and technicians were on premises, there were numerous times when a customer had a similar complaint only to be told NFF (no fault found) when the unit was checked over. No matter what, the person usually swore up and down that everything was good on their end and could not understand why it worked fine in the shop. I used to tell them that all it wanted was a car ride.
Maybe this pre got homesick, bonding with you after the rebuild and wanted to be back with it's mom.
I hope you told it in no uncertain terms, that it was to behave itself and be a good boy (or girl) when it was out in the world, away from the nest.

There was a bit of oscillation, could have been a loose pin, but the trace looked so good I didn't change it back...

There was some confusion at Package Depot in Sumas but I found out the pre-amp was there so I picked it up yesterday.
I hooked it into the system today and all seems to work as it should with the exception of the headphone jack. I assume it was disabled? The lack of headphone output would have led me, in whole or in part, to believe the pre-amp was non-functional in the first place. But then again, it did not appear to pass any signal to the power amp after that "hum" incident when it was fully connected just after getting it.
I should have done this before sending it to you, but I experimented plugging the 700B into both the switched and unswitched main outputs. Inserting the headphone plug into the jack when using the unswitched jacks did not disengage the power amp which looks to be correct. Doing likewise with the power amp fed from the switched jacks cut off the signal - also seemingly correct. The headphones did not function at either time so I guess the headphone amp was bypassed?
When I had it in the kitchen for closer look, I only used headphones but should have also used a small amp and speakers I have for "remote" testing.
