Here's a little-appreciated classic. It came to me today as an earworm.

Maybe not the best fit for this thread, but it does have music: https://kottke.org/23/03/grand-canons-a-visual-symphony-of-everyday-objects

Turned on the local classical FM station today, and got to hear a program with a local musician, Gerald Trimble. He plays old/almost forgotten bowed instruments. I might take in some of his concerts if I ever get over my flu - it has left me very weak.

    what are you listening to?

Just got back from the thrift, and getting ready to listen to Tim Whitmer's "Kansas City Sandard Time." Yeah, it's local. Also local: Connie Dover's "If Ever I Return." Both are in excellent shape. EDIT: Wow, oh wow, what a great recording the Whitmer CD is - it makes all other recordings...

Gene, since you are a fan of Enya, are you aware that she (and her sister, Marie Brennan, real name Maire Philomena Ni Bhraonain) used to sing in the band Clannad? They're very good - I have nine albums by them.

I had a listen to Aes Dana just now, and they are far from traditional, but I admit that "Celtic" covers a huge range of music. This is my idea of traditional, and I have this album on LP, bought at a De Dannan concert in Kansas City years ago:

A wonderful tune starts at 24:15...not that the rest is bad. Here is Finland's Loituma at their best, and you even get "Levan Polkka" at the end. "Valamo Cloister Bells," the one starting at 24:15 is music good to drift off to - I wish it were the whole album. Get really mellow before you...

    Preamp Choices

During the time I had a WOPL here on loan some months ago, I was happiest using a simple Nobsound/Douk Audio passive preamp. A source selector might be needed and the IC cable can't be too long, but otherwise it worked very well.

    Proton AA-1150 Woes

I had the time today, so I cleaned the transistors first, using a small screwdriver to start, and after that, Q-Tips, tissues and pipe cleaners. Then, on to re-flowing a few solder joints, most importantly one of the input jacks. Then, I pulled the covers off the speaker relays, made sure they...

    Proton AA-1150 Woes

I suppose what I'm facing with this amp is simply on the order of "Do this every few years, or at least check it." I bought this amp really cheap at a local audio meet, and asked no questions. Lately, I kept hearing static-like noise from time to time...and it was only getting worse. A preamp...
