The White Oak Audio Model 1 Cabbage Case Thread

Awesome, thank you for making it happen. Now the fun part begins - filling that case!

Hello from NJ. Finally getting to introduce myself

Rebuilding these amps is a great way to escape the realities of the world we currently live in. Also an awesome justification for purchasing new tools…

    My 700B Build

I plan to eventually use this amp with an Aragon 24K pre, B&W 804 speakers, and a Bluesound Node for streaming. For now, it will be my shop amp until it has several hundred hours of play time next to my bench. I’ve gone off the deep end with my main 2-channel system. No way to justify the...

    My 700B Build

Final assembly started with control board and face plate assembled and wired.

    My 700B Build

Power supply and backplane boards in place and initial wiring started. Ran dual rail voltage feeds to each fuse holder, unlike factory wiring with a single wire between the power supply and Left and Right rail fuses. It's now a true dual mono all the way back to the power supply caps.

    My 700B Build

Chassis assembly with Triac power switch in the center. The new front panel power switch now only switches low current Triac gate drive and will last the life of the amp, unlike the stock PL switch. Soldered the RCA nuts and ground straps to the copper plate to ensure robust signal ground...

    My 700B Build

All remaining parts after disassembly. I only reused the transformer, VU meters with bezels, and front handles. Everything you see here is replaced with new modern components.

    My 700B Build

She was originally built by Deb. Had a few incandescent meter bulb blowouts... Otherwise in decent shape for a donor.

    My 700B Build

Finally finished my 700B after putting it on hold almost a year while building amps for others. It's a complete White Oak rebuild with new chassis and heat sinks, including WOPL 1000 insert between the meters. I decided to go with a slightly different look from the Black with Blue LED lighting...

    Dave Bullachs PL 3300

This is a phase of life that completely caught me off guard. Currently dealing with similar circumstances, although not involving audio equipment unfortunately, with my wife’s side of the family. My father in law is now living with us…

    PL700 Rebuild

Not likely the main cause of your issues, but something you should correct involves multiple buss bar chassis grounds (see picture below). The original factory chassis ground wire is the small white wire poorly attached to the neg terminal of the B+ rail capacitor. This wire runs down the...

    PL700 Rebuild

Can you show how the two Red wires are terminated on the other end near the rectifier. Also, did you correct the small White wire termination at the power supply cap?

    Audible Illusions and Counterpoint

No, but a freshly built Model ONE would look fantastic and work well in that room, or any room for that matter…

POLK AUDIO MONITOR SERIES 5 Jr

Vishay-Mills produce both wire wound and non-inductive resistors. I would try this for crossover use...

Phase Linear Dual 500 / White Oak Audio PL14 Control Board

This would be a good thread to review: https://forums.phxaudiotape.com/threads/wopl-dual-500.7773/

    Phase Linear P-580 Speakers

Very nice. Although I veto any family requests to accessorize speakers… That’s a hard NO from me.

    PL700 Rebuild

Don’t forget to place heat sinks on the TO-92’s.

    PL700 Rebuild

Still need a wire placed between control board Phoenix connector 5R and the buss bar.

    PL700 Rebuild

All grounds should terminate back to the main capacitor buss bar. Position six on the relay board should only have one ground wire back to the buss bar. Remove and discard the wire connected to the copper plate between RCA inputs and relay board. RCA grounds connect to the new control board...
