    How about a capacitor discussion?

WOW! Nice to add another series of PP caps into my own list. Thanks for sharing. :)

    How about a capacitor discussion?

if they are polyester film, they might be slightly smaller than polypropylene ones of the same values but, for audio path coupling, polypropylene is preferable as I seemed to get it.

    How about a capacitor discussion?

about sizes... below we have 3 different Nichicon 1uF bipolars and 1uF WIMA PP cap from one of the few series which, on the specsheet, they mention they are suitable for high quality audio... so, for sure that WIMA would be a great choice but it's just HUGE in comparison and it just won't fit in...

    How about a capacitor discussion?

the "problem" about film caps is that if you need, say, 10uF then a film cap would be way too large size and also very expensive, especially if we choose the polypropylene ones... actually, also a 1uF WIMA polypropylene cap would be quite a bit large. In general, when going to recap a deck, if...

Mixed by Erry , the movie!

that guy, back then, literally flooded Italy of his pirated cassettes... all well recorded... as I learn by reading a bit of his story online, quite a few of his cassettes were also sold abroad like on far eastern countries. at some point, someone else was making the pirated version of his...

Mixed by Erry , the movie!

Most likely, most of you don't know what I am talking about... But, here in Italy during the 80s and 90s, there was a guy from Naples named Erry who produced pirated albums and mixtapes/compilations on blank cassettes. It was 100% piracy, but he put attention to quality by duplicating in...

    How about a capacitor discussion?

about this point, i've tried googling a bit about non polars into audio path and tried various points of view on a few audio forums. the most common points i've read around could be resumed with bipolars being better than using two polarized back to back and that they get lower distortion than...

    How about a capacitor discussion?

As you might easily imagine, I am not expert in electronics then I simply try to read and apply what I read from those who are more expert than myself, then any hints/explainations are very welcome. Anyways, the modifies in the AIWA AD-F880 suggested by Alex do imply non polarized caps as...

    How about a capacitor discussion?

when we talk about biased capacitors we mean DC biasing, as Nakdoc wrote. when a cap is subjected only to signal, that's AC which goes positive/negative with the signal. If a polarized audio grade cap is designed to act more like a non-polar one, it's just obvious that a true non-polar one will...

    How about a capacitor discussion?

i guess Nakdoc meant that, about the coupling caps (the ones subjected to zero volts DC), it's better to go with bipolars, which is also how I do it myself. Since these caps are only subjected to the signal (which is AC), a bipolar cannot be reverse biased by the negative parts of the signal...

    what are you listening to?

it's the whole afternoon and evening that I am listening to an album by an italian guitarist/singer/producer who passed away just today... the youngsters here have no idea about who he really was and all the great music he happened to work on... and, most likely, he wasn't known...

    What cassette deck ?

the Canon heads in the B215 are sendust, true? personally, the couple models of Canon sendust I found in a couple of my decks (i mean the ones with 2 laminas per core/channel and green epoxy) sounded horrible and I've replaced them both with something else. Tandberg decks (3014 and the likes)...

    What cassette deck ?

if you replace heads with other heads of same kind of material, you might solve it with few modifications (or none, in certain cases) and the rest with deck's internal tunings. but, if you replace heads with different material ones (especially if materials with considerable different...

    What cassette deck ?

exactly.... but there are a couple issues, if you aren't Alex... the heads might need some work to be mechanically compatible and, for sure, there are electronics modifies involved to make those (excellent) Alps ferrite heads work properly on that deck (as just mentioned by Nando). I also...

    Head azimuth

yes, your memory is fine! :) as for my own memory... I have one of my AIWAs opened here on the table for a few months now, and a printed schematic just at hand... then it was just easy to check. :D

    What cassette deck ?

I also wasn't aware of such problems where I was risking to buy a F1250 here... but, some time later, Alex talked about such issues on the forum and then I knew about it.

    What cassette deck ?

It's clear you were lucky with your decks and the heads of your CT-F1250 were not used enough to get that problem. but, the majority of such heads are totally shot (there are so many people who reported that), then it's just risky to get such a deck without being able to properly test the...

    What cassette deck ?

yes, I perfectly know what you mean about the B965 because I had got my two B965 in original shape and when I had got my second (original) one, I just had my first one modified by Alex... then I could make direct comparisons between original and modified. Also, I preferred to the original B965...
