Repair of Luxman and Pioneer Tape Decks

No as I was thinking about how I have to move around. No there is very little space here so many deck will have to get out before I can easily turn around- I have let it get way too much here. There is a danger to not saying the word no. Two 8 channel 1/2" came in and a 32 so I need to get on...

Repair of Luxman and Pioneer Tape Decks

I have more than 200 units in house now. Some of them I own to sell when restored. I have to get off my chair and get to working on this stuff as a lot is almost ready to go out and even a RT-707 that came in looking horrible which was from Orange. Dan had about 14 the last I talked with him...

Repair of Luxman and Pioneer Tape Decks

New Update- well after several years of working on the Luxman (Nakmandan) I hear the words no more Luxman decks ever and I just heard this from Gerhard who also got stuck working on one with a capstan motor problem and no diagrams of any kind of what is in that thing. Lack of technical...

    Welcome Tapeheads!

Hi Ron, I imagine you put a lot of money into the unit up at this point so why let a asset just sit? I would try and figure out where the problem is coming from but it most likely won't be outside of the unit but maybe a dirty switch. If it has all new parts as caps and drivers as PS is known to...

    Welcome Tapeheads!

What was the problem? Some things are too complex to fix by E mail or phone. As with some things like on Reel to Reel Clinic, I have helped people repair their units as far away as Panama or one guy was in the Mal Dives. I had to ask him where is that? His unit was repaired when I left him.

    Welcome Tapeheads!

I know there are people against FB and I am one of them. We have to deal with what evils and try to do good on their platform just the same. Yes these rich guys can fly out into space and for me they should just stay out there- don't come back. We created the FB page- one of my past Engineer...

    Welcome Tapeheads!

Good for you. I don't go there at all anymore as what is the point? Just stay where there is intelligent exchange and leave the boneheads at TH and AK. If you are looking for the wrong answer to a question these are places to start as well as You Tube. There is a better group forming on FB...

Tascam 122 Mk III Gear C available

Well, I can see a shortage of gears coming as it requires a major investment of mine to stock just 50 of them and they sell far too fast. Resin cast gears must be superior to those on E bay that are cheap. If they are Injection molded then why so they need $14 like some have said to me when...

Where can you find "How to do preventive Maintenance on a Pioneer 701-RT Reel to Reel?

Well I first did it to get help but that has not happened much except for nakmandan who has helped a lot in cassette decks. I want him to learn Open reels too. Hari my local guy is too busy with restaurant building for some company and so that leave a space open for a person once I get some...

Where can you find "How to do preventive Maintenance on a Pioneer 701-RT Reel to Reel?

I think on the RT-707 the 2SC1327 transistors have gotten noisy on some decks. I think there are like 8 or 10 altogether. I have put in KSC1845 and have had no problem with the unit I repaired. Now we have a guy who I have been training doing them in SC of the states. Jeff is coming right along...

Tascam 122 Mk III Gear C available

All I can say is try one out and if you clean the deck of old grease like I do maybe it will work. It does seem that the most stress is going into that gear as it is the only one that cracks and break in half as I find them. Found one last week like that. The resin that my machinist makes them...

Tascam 122 Mk III Gear C available

I may have one here and they are injection molded and I have been told they do not work as well as mine and I sometimes send people to E bay due to being in far off countries where my gear and $22 postage would be more than $50 for a stupid plastic gear. People who have bought them there did...

Source for circular felt pads in cassette deck takeup/supply spindles

I had an associate I am training and he was working on a X10R and he did not think he would be able to fix it. I gave him the idea that repairs do not come easy sometimes and you don't get cream puff jobs all the time. He told me someone has sprayed inside the unit all kinds of the spray grease...

Tascam 122 Mk III Gear C available

Regarding the 122 Mk III deck, I get requests that they want a motor fixed then I mention the gear and what comes along with the gear is a 2 hour job of taking the transport apart to clean all the old grease out and to apply Lubriplate 105 so that the head base slides up easy as it should...

    Teac X1000R Vs X2000R models

Well there is a reason some deck have limited frequency response. It is the head design. The Technics, Otari and Pioneer used like heads and they wear a lot longer then the Teac heads. But they also have trouble getting over 20KHz at 7.5 IPS and I suspect it has to do with the extended wear...

Source for circular felt pads in cassette deck takeup/supply spindles

Felt rings have to be cut from sheets that you buy as a self stick round cut felt ring will cost a lot to make. MCM used to sell them but the kit I have now is all yellow and indication of dried felt which is what you are trying to get away from. The felt rings I have cut for slip clutches...

    TC-RX80ES

The button on the transport were too small and the meters look kind of cheap. The JVC decks I worked on never impressed me much. Nakamichi were better but there were even some off brand one that were better than the middle of the road stuff.

Marantz PMD-430 Record Speed Too Fast?!

There is a difference of load on the power supply from play to record as the record electronics and oscillator take more current. Maybe the motor or power going to it is marginal. Check changes in voltage at motor- these are voltage regulated motors and they can drift with temp or voltage...

    Just BIN'd a Nak ZX-9 Deck

Personally if I was to be lucky enough to get one I would turn it over to Dan my Nak guy and let him do what was needed. These decks are kind of specialized item and there are very few guys that can make them sweet. Nakmandan is one who I see once in a while and always does a wonderful job and I...

Tascam 122 Mk III Gear C available

Want a challenge? Tape guides on Teac cassette decks that are made of plastic and have always broken due to abuse- they hold the cassette cover (door) on. How about the switches at the rear of Tascam cassette decks as it is small and for the balanced and unbalanced switching for input. How...
