    Meter Calibration

Although I never measured power and relative SPL levels when my 700B was in stock form, I do notice an increase in power following the Rev C upgrade. Wouldn't it be logical to re calibrate the meters to better display the new found power? How do the meters correspond to maximum power output...

    WOPL at last!

No kidding?! What would 4 ohm numbers look like? Would the 5 amp rail fuses support such a test? I`m tempted to give it a try if the dummy load we have at work can handle such power.

Those look like nice caps, wonder if they come pre formed. My amp does plus and minus 106 vdc. I know caps of yesteryear were under rated 20 or so %, is that still the case? A BR swap would be good too, yes?

It`s a WTCPT, great general purpose iron, I`ve had it for nearly 20 years now, bought that model because we had those at work running 24/7 for years on end. I remember bitching at how expensive those things were at he time :)

    700B meter

Since re assembling the amp last week, the left VU meter is acting strangely. On power up, it does no deflect as the right one does (at very low level) but “kicks in†after increasing the gain to that channel and then tracks properly in both minus 20 and 0 DB scales, and will continue to do...

May as well, did everything else. What would you suggest? And what about C22? That too is original.

    WOPL at last!

Got around to performing the transplant today, went relatively easily. Not my cleanest wiring job but it works! Offsets -.06 and -.07 but the bias still sits high at .420 and .407 with pots trimmed back to the minimum setting. While not far off from the ideal value, I am willing to accept that...

Thanks guys, I think I`ll stick with the Crown, outstanding preamp though I wish it had a remote.

    PL 4000 preamp

Hmm.. Just looking at some naked shots reveals a lot of mother/daughter board connections, I`m not too crazy about PC mounted rca`s either. What do they sound like?

Good, Bad or Ugly? I have an opportunity to get one of these, apparently in mint shape with cabinet, worth looking into? What would a fair price be? TIA

    BIG problems

I`ve been measuring directly across R38 and 39. Is that the correct method or should it be ground to R38 topside?

    BIG problems

Post-mortem I`m glad to report that the amp has been running flawlessly for 3 days now and it`s sounding just fine, no snaps, crackles, pops or other mystery noises, running cool too despite the higher than normal bias. I haven't yet had a chance to do any critical listening so I`ll have to...
