Replacing D52 and D53 did the trick. Both meters now track evenly in both switch positions.
If I could only remember which of those diodes were faulty.. in any case, problem solved.
Splitting the high and low section would be easy enough, the mod can be made to be reversible too.
Vertical, horizontal, active or passive biamping, you have some choices there.
I stumbled upon these pics while browsing vintage PA posts. The first one is of Brittania Row amp racks used on a Pink Floyd tour. The second shows old school Clair Brothers and Audio Analyst racks with all 3 series of 700`s. Interesting collection of other amps as well, I can make out some...
I cant believe that thing sold for $700, someone is in for a disappointment :(
Kinda makes you wonder what a mint condition fully restored and WO`d unit would be worth.
If this trend keeps up, it wont be long before these amps find themselves in Marantz 500/510/510M price territory.
Neither my neighbors or speakers would appreciate that! So far, 99.9% of my listening is done with the switch at the minus 20 position with the meters hovering below - 5 VU
Which is my point precisely. With the new available power, a 0 VU reading would have to correspond to a 60+ volts, 14 volts above the reference voltage.
Even with stock values, would the needles not be bending at the clipping point?
