    what are you listening to?

I figured this would be an appropriate listen today to mark a very significant day in music history .... 54 years ago today, the Allman Brothers Band officially formed in Jacksonville, Florida when Gregg returned from California to round out the six-member lineup of his brother Duane's new band.

I still like my Hafler D110 preamp. very quiet...but had some switch noises that I fixed. Super nice tone controls! great dynamic range

I rebuilt my 120 shortly before WOPLing my 400-II ... that Dynaco gave me the confidence to try something more challenging like the 400-II, and then a few other projects. Dynaco was good stuff in its day.

Yup…I learned that lesson. The Tascam L40 MK 2 was instrumental at converting the unbalanced to balanced and back to unbalanced…AND provided the much needed level trim that allowed me to integrate the PX2 crossover into my system.

Thnk you Joe…that clarifies a lot. Not sure where I saw the comment regarding what I mentioned previously…if I stumble on it again, I will post a reference link. A well-earned “HUH???” nonetheless!

    Preamp Choices

Out of curiosity…an open question to all..is a regulated PS the best option for a preamp as this? Previous postings in forums out here go back and forth about the use of a regulated PS in a preamp not being able to react fast enough to transients and demands preamps place on power supplies...

Crown Macro Reference Monster amp rework.

Since buying a B&L stereo microscope, I have been amazed at the solder issues I have seen in any number of decades-old stuff I have worked on. Wave soldered boards have varied quality joints, with larger lead components usually being the biggest culprit. Rule of thumb…inspect everything under...

Any chance you might have a pic of the RCAs on the back wall of the Aragon? The pics I saw posted did not show any detail of the jacks or mounting

    Show Off Your Linear-Tracking Turntables

For now, I reinstalled the Ortofon MC10 cartridge that I bought new with the turntable (back around '81 or '82). Flip-down dust shield removed for better clarity. It was my first MC type, and I believe it was Ortofon's entry-level MC at the time. It came with the matching transformer that...

    Show Off Your Linear-Tracking Turntables

IT'S BAAACK!!!! My PX-3's tonearm stopped tracking several, probably 15 years ago. Button functions had started acting intermittently at first and then totally dead. Very frustrating as I've owned this TT since new in the early 80's and it had been rock solid. I looked for advice online but...

    New PL400 Full WOPL Build

We warned you about this addiction! Before you dive into the 400-II, have a read at some of George’s past posts where he went down the path of not using the front panel attenuators, and directly wired from the RCAs to the control board ( as you just did on this build). Glen uses a rear panel...

TC1 - Multi Tester Tool ... A Handy Tool for Your Bench

I'm not sure I have any of those around here. I've been fairly limited in the things I have worked with the past couple years ... pretty much just our PL and related audio things.
