Microline Stylus tracks compilations like no other. No inner groove distortion. Audio Technica Microlines I have used: VM540ML (Current), AT150MLX, AT440MLa. All 3 will fit on same cartridge, Much like the Ortofon OM Series. Would like to get a replacement stylus for the OM20 one day...

    Thorens TD-125 MKII rework

For me, A lot of trial and error in the earlier days, messed up a deck or two. I have never owned an alignment gauge, or torque tape, but I do have a test tape which was made by a technician.

    Thorens TD-125 MKII rework

Nando, have you done any internal work on cassette decks in the past, like pulling a transport out and servicing it? I can see the sense in getting a technician to do it, that would maximize the time for enjoying the gear.

    Thorens TD-125 MKII rework

Definitely worth restoring, I'm a fan of the suspended setups. Own a TD-160 Super and TD-165, almost nothing done to either of them, they just go and go. Sound is spectacular. Sounds like the TD-125 uses a much different motor, maybe something to do with the electronic speed adjustment.

    Cassette lovers; why?

Tapes were all I had at a young age. Started with a Pye CR-9 Shoebox recorder, and 2 Pre-Records, T-Rex greatest hits and Joan Jett. Moved up to a Pye Ghetto Blaster shortly after, but didn't do any recording. Started recording in 1990 with a Teac 4 in 1 system, fixed magnet erase head and no...

    Cassette lovers; why?

I have found very few pre-recorded cassettes with dolby that sound accurate, probably because they have been recorded at high speed in a factory. Also the master tape they have been taken from wears out after doing many passes. Then you have head wear and alignment to factor in.
