    Phase linear 4000

I partially agree with you , Joe . For me Autocorrelator and Peak Unlimiter functions are a good " Dynamic range ricovery system " Good for vinyl records and to compress the dynamic for modern soundtracks in case you connect the TV to your hifi system . For CDs are moreless useless ...

    Phase linear 4000

After checking PSU , in case the fault persists , remove all the boards except tone amp and logic boards . This is the minimum config . Use ,if you have ,a cassette deck as AC voltmeter connected to main output . Don't use a power amp when you move and remove boards . Ciao Marco

    PL2000 S2 Balance pot.

Add a resistor . To find the right value use a 220 KOhm pot and measure . It's the typical issue . At that time center snap pots probably did not exist or they were expansive See my Dynaco PAT 4 . ( I had a 2dB tracking error ) Only one resistor to fix the problem. Ciao Marco

    PL2000 S2 Balance pot.

Only volume pots must be logarithmic . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal-loudness_contour All attenuators generally are linear. In any case every linear pots can be easily modified to become log or anti log...

    PL2000 S2 Balance pot.

Why do you want to replace pot ? Generally it's sufficient to deox it. The pot mounted in PL 2000 has no center position and so at 12 o'clock one channel could be higher than the other one . If this is your issue you can compensate the tracking error with a resistor connected in parallel on...

PS Audio (Paul McGowan) you tube “Phase Linear Gear”

But it's necessary for the age and not for noise . In this case l generally saw loss in path , hum , short and so on . These are faults . IMHO . Ciao Marco

PS Audio (Paul McGowan) you tube “Phase Linear Gear”

According to my experience in hifi systems , I saw these problems for noise : - ground loops ( NAD 4150 grounded ) Cause :a mistake by Nad that sent to Italy some units for UK market Solution : I disconnected the ground - motorboating ( Dynaco FM 5 ) Cause : Power line ethernet...

PS Audio (Paul McGowan) you tube “Phase Linear Gear”

Bypass caps are well known solution to reduce noise due to RF so two questions : 1) Can you hear the difference in sound ? 2) In PL400/ PL700 service manual it' written to add 4 caps across the rectifier in case of RF interference , so what's the best solution ? Probably for AM ( very...

    Phase linear 4000 problem

In my two units mother boards are O.K. Probably the reason is that there are two versions . First version has power transformer located on the mother board instead on the rear panel . See service manual . Probably first versions were critic .Also front panel was replaced with a new version ...

    Phase Linear 4000 Restoration

Just found 4 pieces in a decent state . Please send me your address , so probably I'll send you RCA connectors tomorrow morning Ciao Marco Ps : I don't understand the question about the Led . Leds have the same voltage drop depending of colors Red is approx . 1.6 V

    Phase Linear 4000 Restoration

I confirm everything . Shorting capability is necessary only with phono inputs if not used . In this case use shorted RCA male plugs . See , for instance , Yamaha , Pioneer preamps. If you replace RCA connectors use a type with two plastic washers . The connection between ground and chassis...

    Phase linear 4000 problem

You have the 3rd series , because the front board is soldered to the mother board . On the front panel it's written "ambience / 2 channel ". In this case caps are O.K. You have only to replace RCA connectors . Ciao Marco

    Phase linear 4000 problem

    1) the connector is for joystick 2) mother board and front panel board look O.K. They are the second version ( look at the thickness vs the other boards ) 3) check S/N of the unit : if below 3000 you must replace all caps ( 50 V instead 35 V ) 4) you must replace all RCA connectors...

    Phase Linear 400B....?

Just asked my hifi guru for this amp. He saw one unit ( a sample for importer and retailers ) It was designed after PL 400 and the idea was to use it in case of bi amping in order to have the same front panel design . Now I wait the check with Ed to have a confirmation . Ciao Marco

    PL400

First of all , welcome . Check the number of your board ; it should be PL 0171 . It was mounted on PL 700 . It has 6 trims : input DC offset , output DC offset and bias . ( x 2 ) Schematics are available on PL 700B rev .1 Probably old models used this kind of board . Ciao Marco
