Pulled one out of the shelf tonight that I'd forgotten about. Glad it didn't go to Dallas...

Complete with an intro from Alligator's 1988 PR person, Cindy Wells, which attached 8 pages of press clippings, including the 1988 Rolling Stone article on Lonnie. Found it locally years ago and then forgot about it. May be the second time I've played it - but it's about to go into more regular rotation. He kicks ass.

I’m a huge fan of Carlos Santana in all of his many identities over the last 56 years. These two albums represent 56 years of Carlos Santana! I got out my first press, debut album from 1969 which is the UK version on CBS Records, and it has always been such a fantastic listen. Soundstage on this album is incredible, several songs have 270° soundstage, where I keep looking over my right and left shoulders for the drums. Fantastic engineering, one of the 60’s best.

I have an original Columbia 1969 US Debut First Pressing that just does not have this soundstage. Woodstock put him on the map, but this album is what sold me back then.

I pre-ordered the newest Santana LP and received it a month ago. It is a collaboration album and extremely well engineered. The standout song on the album is Blues for Salvador. The version of that song just drips with emotion, some of his best guitar genius. This version gets into your soul. He wrote that song for his son Salvador and released the album of the same name in 1987. He won his first grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 1989 with the rendition of Blues for Salvador on that album. The collaborations on his newest Sentient include Miles Davis, Smokey Robinson, Michael Jackson, his wife Cindy Blackman Santana, and Darryl (DMC) McDaniels. I am not a Rap music fan, (no offense) so the Darryl McDaniels performance is not high on my list even though Santana is brilliant. This new album is available on the streaming services, take a listen, especially Blues for Salvador.
Enjoy
