Stephens Phase Linear 400--In for the works.

I'd say at that point you are not looking at neary a 35 year old amp. Maybe a 35 year old PT and chassis but the rest is a very new, modern amp....that kicks ass over older and newer amps from my understanding....

You're right - hardware has been removed and replaced with modern components. That is one of the reasons why I added a list of the modifications and that wasn't a complete list either. The topology has remained true to PL though so...

I am just right and expect to be for quite some time. I have been moved by music I had not heard today, and some I had not heard in a "fidelity rich" environment like that.
High Fidelity SteelyDan is burry-chill stuff, DAMN ITS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some pics...

Yep, them are speaker cables. A lot more pics on the phone...

The review has to wait a few more hours. Steve is having a friend bring over his McIntosh MC 20 somethings and a pair of Martin Logans to challenge the Silver Shadow 400.......interesting....

Which channel Lee? the Right or the Left :-)

Both this time Joe. The little SS400 has already kicked a Rowland and a Parasound to the curb, They're bringing out the heavy hitters now!! And a wee bit more difficult load...

Still waiting to hear Ron. I text Steve awhile ago and they were in the middle of the shootout.

I passed on a pair of Mach 1's not too long ago. For a very reasonable price too. I just dont need another pair of speakers. Not to mention my power section might be a bit big for those. And I already have a big pair of Cerwins in the garage that need some attention.

The Mach 1's handle an awful lot of power Ben, I don't think you have to worry on that account. I had a really beatup pair about 8 years ago and the Mark Levinson 333 could not hurt them
Realistic Mach One speakers are great speakers. I had a pair of the 40-4024A, the A suffix meaning a big difference than the non-A Mach Ones. I will post more in another thread about them.

Nando.

I am looking forward to hearing how the Shootout went, Lee.

Me too, I'm a wreck. WAYYYYYY heavy hitters this time.

The heavier they are the harder they fall. Just remember: keep everything in perspective, especially, when we are comparing amplifiers costing an exponential amount more than what's invested in the PL 400.

I know Nando. It's done wayyyy better than I could have hoped for. We're talkin Mac here for God's sake....

Mac gear seems to always come in for repairs when I'm at Innovative Audio. Not only must you be able to afford the initial cost of a Mac, but be able to pony up for the subsequent repairs. Are there Mac owners, here, that know that is just an aberration?

It'd be nice to hear something like "The WOPL smacked the Mac silly and made it call the WOPL 'Daddy'".... hehehehe...

(now back to me work here for Ron... snip.. solder.. bolt... gaze.... repeat... )

Not a peep, I think we've lost him too!! Man, they get everyody...

Not a peep out of Richard D either....
