In the beginning, we started calling these conversions PLWO's (Phase Linear White Oaked) Member ksrigg (Sutton-bless-your-pea-pickin-heart-Rigg) proposed a WOPL (White Oaked Phase Linear) designation instead, He mentioned the WOPR computer from movie fame and it started to stick. The archives section is named PLWO, that will now be changed to WOPL Archives, had to be confusing. So it's official now, if there are no overwhelmin arguments against it, that a converted Pl amp with White Oak components is a

WOPL!!
Thanks Sutton, your name will now live in infamy.......

To be honest Lee, I been thinking for the last while. Being that this site is pretty much the authority on WO and PL, there should be a dedicated WOPL section on the main page. I mean a bunch of what already exists could go there, the How to make a monster section... the tips and tricks section and probably some others. All build and rebuild threads could be located within as well... creating a large database of WOPL. Anyways... it was just a though.

And I have no quams with WOPL. Sounds good to me.

Interesting idea there.. we could nest a few subforums under the main....

With the growing number of members joining up simply for WOPL related info and other such goodness, it only seems right to me. Then there would be no searching required unless looking for specific thread. Plus I already think Phoenix is the spot for PL related info.

Good idea fellers, flesh it out. Jer , it could be a complete sub forum in the audio discussions section or would it have it's own??

Kev, could you tell those idiots at the coal treatment facility to check the drain plugs once in awhile, coal is already under attack and we don;'t need to provide the ammo...:bootyshake:

The Carver site is pretty cool and treats the PL up through the Carver gear exhaustively, but I believe I can state that we are the authority when it comes to the Phase Linear/White Oak combinations.....

Thanks guys....

I thank you so much Lee for the mention and giving me credit for something......as I probably have provided not very much other than having the name stick in my head from that MOVIE. I thought it might be cool, and you doing this is awesome. I think YOU and JOE and all the other people who have really put in the time and mental prowess to provide us with these wonderful amps. I always thought there was something special about the Phase Linear, but in my college years, all I did was to make money for Mr. Toad's Stereo...who kept rebuilding the PL as fast as I could blow mine up. I visited my parents more as a result too. Had to have my music ! I would also take my Watklins WS-1's out when the amp would blow too, until I finally put a fuse in line. That partially fixed the problem.

But White Oak (Joe) and Lee Laatsh deserve the credit for this wonderful piece of gear. I've never heard better. I just wish I had the funds to replace he backbone on all my PL's Maybe one of thee days I will..

Thanks agan guys...

Long Live he WOPL......

Yea... That was bad !!! Let me make it real clear I live in VA.... Not WV ! lol !!

Sutton you have provided endless hours of entertainment and a unique perspective, love ya man!! You're especially cute in the Superman outfit. Did the grand kids mob ya when they saw ya??

Been busy

Been busy studying the conversion to digital crossovers, and going the DSP route. I have ordered the mini-dsp and have downloaded REW to play with. As expensive as components are becoming to create a passive crossover, I am going to try digital. I am not hi-jacking the thread, just letting you know where I've been Kev...

I have also been securing some of the Peavey ribbon tweeters (which are made by Fountek) and am going to build a speaker pair to play with. It wlll require a separate channel for each driver section, so I will be using ALL my PLs to drive my system ultimately. Should get interesting with the channel powering only the information being used by the driver itself....

I apologize in advance for going off topic, and feel free to move this post t a different area, if needed.

DuDE!!!! Off topic is SRP around here and you know it.

Thanks for letting us know what you've been up to. Some pics and stuff would be nice...

Yea Sutton.... What he said !!!!!! Lets see those things !

Have NO GRAND CHILDREN

I have three daughters, but no grandbabies yet. They are 24, 20 and 13, so I still have a year or two to wait (I hope)....plus I hope they marry first as well. In this day and time, who know though.

Can't wait to play with digital crossovers too. I think this should be interesting. The cost has come way down and the user interface has gotten much friendlier. I'm looking at the mini-dsp family of processors. Starting with two in and four out (a two way crossover for one pair of speakers) I m also starting wih RCA I nd out (unbalanced). I hope it is something I can get to work properly.
