Found this extremely rare (and very hard to find) one today for a very reasonable price:

I'm still lucky in finding those wonderful vintage things.....

Miles: Another pair of AKG headphones! Once you complete your collection of AKG vintage headphones, let me know which pair you like best for listening sessions.

I can tell you that right away:

My heavily modified K240. It was an early 600 Ohm Sextett version with a defective driver, so I replaced both of em by new 50mm 32 Ohm drivers and recabled them completely.
The frequency response of this beauty reaches 5 - 30.000Hz instead of the factory original 16-20.000Hz.....

And on top of it: I really like the vintage looks of these cans.

Oppophones.....

The design of the headband of these Oppophones is a straight copy stolen from the Sony MDR-V 1:

And if those Oppo cans are sounding the same as the Sony's you better leave them for what they are.

Highway HiFi....

I don't care how stupid this idea was but I like the dash of this Jag:

Restoring a Classic...

It came with its original box, and after some work on this 1979 classic it is brought back to the state of new....

Yes Miles, your restoration skills are pretty awesome, not so easy to handle those tiny membranes and wires and put them all together maybe even better than the factory did, well done! :thumbright:

Hunting for the final one...

Thanks for the compliments!

So, there's only one missing in my collection:

I opened the hunt for an affordable used one, and I'm pretty close....

It will get the same treatment as the others I have done.

Where have I seen those before? I would be interested in knowing how the older circa 80's K-240s compare to the most recent models. The friend, who I bought my pair of K-240s from, has a newer set for sale, too. And a pair of original-owner K-340 headphones are on the local craigslist, but the asking price is $200. I bought my old K-240s for $45.

The main difference between them is that the older ones are 600 Ohm and the newer ones are 55 Ohm and much easier to drive without using a headphone amp.
$200 is WAY too much for the 340's...

The most recent ones (like the K240 mkII) are performing good, I really think you would like those fitted with the included velvet earpads. They are pretty comfy to wear.

I am looking for a second pair of AKGs, so your opinion is appreciated, Miles. I've had mine since January 2009 and I haven't tried anything different since then.

After all this talk about AKG's, even though they get very, very little use, I still like my Sony's. :laughing9:

I've used several Sony's over the years (including some very expensive professional ones) but all of them let my down after only a few months of use...

So I got rid of them, except for the two Sony MDR-V 700 custom ones.

As im sure ive mentioned before I use the MDR-V400's. They are 20 years old and have never let me down. As long as these things keep playing I dont think ill ever look for another pair. They do a fine job monitoring tape when im recording. Pretty much the only use ive ever had for them really.
