Daren, Miles and Ben: Great shots of premium cassettes. I want to record on them all. Here's one recently unsealed for my second to last tape during my "Classic Rock "mix tape run.

I have a couple more I could showcase, but I dont think my camera does the tapes much justice. I have my eyes on 3 different brands currently. Sony, Fuji, and Canon.

Won this little beaut in a contest over at the TH.

Still not sure what I'll record on it yet.

Ben: Congratulations on winning the contest. You knocked it out of the park for Stuart's contest. OK... metal formulation... I would record your favourite tracks from the best decade of rock - the 70's, all from vinyl, and include some rousing live songs.

I rarely make cassette mix tapes for myself, but since all the tapes I record for members are kept on MiniDisc Masters, I can always use them.

I bet that That's Suono is a good one to record on.

While not that often lately, I do like to make mix tapes for myself. Which means for when I have guests over or when I dont feel like picking out albums/cd's/tapes to listen to.

Speaking of MD's. Whenever I can manage to put the final touches to Pat's Stampeders MD mix. I think ill be looking for an MD swap.

I also managed to track down a local seller with over 200 used MD's. I'll likely be hitting him up in the near future for 25 or 50.

Ben: That would be great. When you mentioned The Stampeders I went searching for a used copy of theirs on vinyl. I found a live Stampeders. Of course, I grew up with their music, but hadn't followed the group. I had a 45 with "Sweet City Woman" on it that I played often.

Hey, that's good to have a source for that many MDs. It makes no difference whether they are used or new - there indestructible.

I don't know why Nando, but Denon tapes completely passed me by back in the day. I currently have around five sealed examples in my stash at the moment.

Ben,

Eighteen months ago I would have said use it. Today I'm a little more cautious as I am finding it more difficult to secure quality blanks. Considering how rare That's tapes (which I adore) are in your neck of the woods, I'd admire it from a distance and save it for something very special.

My thoughts exactly Daren. Ive only ever seen two That's tape's. The TX 90 you sent me, and this one.

Daren & Ben: I guess if you are unsure whether you'll ever get another of the same in sealed condition keep the That's Suono Metal as it is and park it in the display case. I have a few cassettes from Vince, Sep, Daren, and Stuart which will remain sealed.

Daren: That particular Denon DXM 90 cassette got a thumbs down from me. It may have just been that one, but I wasn't happy with the mix tape recording I did for derek92994, so I kept it and re-recorded his mix tape on a Type II tape, instead.

This cassette turned out better:

It sounds brilliant, very clear and punchy with minimal hiss. Its also the only TDK CDing I have =)

@Elite-ist: Those CDing tapes are pretty good.

@derek92994: How difficult is it to secure decent blanks in Oz these days?

I was hoping it was one you might not have heard before. I was screening the field for discoveries when I recorded six mix tapes from the same MD Master using four different tape brands. First time for recording on the TDK CDing-II 90.

Can't seem to get them in shops anymore so you are at the mercy of whoever is selling them. I paid around 3.30 each for the sony metal xr's purchased from a private seller in australia. The price I consider ok but may not be cheap in other people's opinions. One of my best scores was 32 TDK AD 60's sealed for $20 plus postage.

Broken beyond repair but highly affable
Yes Nando, Hitachi and Maxell were the same using same materials and technologies for making tapes, there's no correlation between models and the DL from Hitachi is infact the UD-I from Maxell speaking about the tapes, both very nice superfeerics anyway. I didn't saw that chrome, the UD-EX you have there but i'm sure it has a Maxell version loaded with that tape too,,, and it's not something new for Maxell as long they started with Hitachi and finished with RAKS :confused2::)
Last time I checked, Hitachi OWNED Maxell...

Other than the usual sources online, it is now very rare that I come across sealed cassettes in the UK. You can still get new Maxell UR tapes but they don't interest me.

Eighteen months ago you could have picked up those TDK CDing chromes (above) quite easily from various charity shops - but not now.

I have heard good things about those Sony XRs. That was a sweet deal on the ADs although I have never been a huge fan of that particular tape.

Have you tried any super ferrics at all?
