Earth to George, Status update please bud :cyclopsani:
Put it this way.....

If 'they' don't come around at 7.00am tomorrow morning, then I may just get away with it.
BUT, if there's a knock on my door at 7.00am tomorrow morning, then I'll be going to the lockup pro'ly 'till Monday morning and then go to see the Judge. I think that's how they usually do it.
Either way, I'm not opening my door tomorrow, and just hand myself in on Monday, and take wot comes.

Good luck, those things are a strange breed and show no logic what so ever. Been worried about you. I don't think you have too much to worry about so just relax as much as you can and enjoy those tunes.

damn that kitty litter just gets everywhere. you'd think the kids would've learnt how to wipe their paws after being to the box outside by now. no way!

They do a good burn out after jumping out of the litter box. Wouldn't bother me, I'd do anything to have a kitty at the moment but its just going to cause me stress with the real estate and body corporate. I simply wouldn't trust anyone minding them for a day either. Maybe when I move.

Listening to Eric Clapton Slowhand for the 4th time this week, the Nakamichi 480 is giving me hell with slight tape dropouts during recording so I'm using the JVC TD-V661 dual capstan now, don't have the time to mess with the nak, put so much into it during the week and its still being a bitch. I must give credit to the JVC as it has been flawless and always does a good job, never lets me down.
I have a bunch of other Clapton records to record tonight, all near mint, ear candy and the first listen is going to be awesome as I have not heard them yet.

same with my 660
i've put a lot of effort into that one, and had it running perfect.
tried it again after a day, and the same speed problems came back.
i guess i'll have to get a new belt set ($60) afterall.
bugger!

Try a drop of oil down the capstan motor shaft, run the deck so the motor is pointing shaft up so the oil can go down into the motor. Either that or de-oxit. I normally just clean my belts with alcohol or if I want to tighten them, I take them off, boil a jug of water, put the belt in the boiling water for 5 minutes, then take it out and put it in the freezer for 10 minutes. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Have only destroyed 1 belt out of doing it to 5 others. Will see how the 480 goes with those new transistors when they get here from london. Until then will enjoy hassle free recording with the JVC.

i'm just as happy to push it all aside, and just use my iMac. sounds just fine, and so much more to choose from considering the size of my .flac library.

Yeah its nice to have that, have been flaccing a bit lately too. But I love analog so much and really want these loaned vinyl laid down to tape/betahifi/pc. Played a beta hifi tape today and I swear it sounded just as if the Thorens turntable was playing live, that thing is so accurate in its recording. Its also the feeling of creating something and remembering the hard work you put in to get it right (retry retry retry) :laughing9:

I have a Yamaha KX-300 Deck here which I need to clean up to be photo worthy. Basic function tests passed, have not listened to it yet. Need to get motivated and work on it. Amorphous Head, HXPRO, Dolby B/C/MPX etc, single capstan, knobs are missing on it (big deal). Pinch roller still rubbery and consistent. $5 from the dump market, couldn't help myself, tape deck number 17 :toothy10:

Did a nice Garbage Mix tape recently, never used this type of tape before (Denon DX1), came out very nice and punchy for the alpine car deck (Thanks to the Nak 480). The tape is a little hissy between tracks but otherwise is fine. Not bad at all, glad you mentioned garbage some time back, made me re-visit their music as I was into them heavily in my late teens :toothy10:

just looked it up.
that's not a bad deck. it's got lots of switches and labels that make it look quite techie.
you'll have to find a remote for it now.
you can find the user manual here:

I have a K-340 which is very similar, will have to photograph them together. I have a universal remote that will control ANYTHING, it even controls my air conditioner/alpine car deck. Its a Logitech Harmony 500 which connects to the pc and internet so any new release devices can be added to it as well as they expand the database. Thanks for the manual link :)

Regarding the Yamaha K-340 and KX-300, in my opinion these decks are not great at all. Either that or they need a new capstan belt/capstan shaft lube, every other yamaha deck I have owned (some older, some newer than these) has held up just fine and not required any work at all apart from a basic head clean.

Belt change is not the easiest thing to do on these as it requires re-soldering of connections and you have to be careful not to knock the cam gear out of alignment (it runs off the capstan flywheel using a solenoid to engage it, a cheap way of doing it without adding a 3rd motor for mode changes).

I hooked both of these up to my wow/flutter meter and they are just terrible, the KX-300 was so bad I could hear the wow/flutter with my bare ear, belt tension is fine and has been cleaned, no better. My K-220 walks all over these and its even more of an old/basic model.

to be honest, the first few "natural sound" models were just a little too lifeless for my liking.
even playing quality recordings with the "Dobly" pressed out on playback, still wouldn't give the sound the presence I was listening for.

call me old fashioned, but i like my decks to have a bit of weight to them too.
the yammies were just too light weight which to me meant compromise on build quality somewhere along the line.

I know what you mean. The K-340 had the GF-35 head and the KX-300 had the GF-40 head which is the same head as what's in my KX-530. The KX-530 walks all over both the 3XX series decks I have here. I think it has a lot to do with the electronics and better mechanism the 530 has (3 motor instead of 2, larger capstan flywheel). The Denon DR-F7 and Nakamichi BX-1/480 walk all over any of my other decks for playback (the JVC is lifeless with playback but records ALMOST as good as the Nakamichi 480).

So overall between all my decks the Nakamichi 480 and Denon DR-F7 are my favorites, deep bright sound, I think the Denon has the lowest wow/flutter of any single capstan deck of 0.027. Both these units weigh a tonne.

a lot has got to do with too many manufacturers building too many things, e.g., cass decks, reel to reel, amps, tuners, washing machines, toasters, whereas the specialty builders e.g.., Nakamichi, just built the one thing (at that time), so therefore, they had to be better.

Here's a Sonics 800x like wot I got.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330967407923&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:AU:1123

Now I think this guy is getting it confused with the 600x, which is a 3 channel amp with the built-in active 3 way x-over, but the 800x is a Bryston 7B. (800W Monoblock) which as I've stated elsewhere can be converted to stereo very easily by bypassing the back panel mono module.

So if anyone's interested in a cheap 7B, here it is.....

SOLD: (only) $283.87

Bargain!
