Happy Birthday Ben, it was also my Niece's birthday the same day (June 18th australian time)
Ben, George, Nando, Glantoir, laatsch55, NavLinear, thanks for your kind words =): My grandfather had a good "innings" to make it to 80. He had polio when he was a child, epilepsy his whole life, very low lung capacity, and towards the end there he was blind but knew it wasn't worth getting the work done. Lung cancer got him in the end, mainly from asbestos and smoking for 35 years although he gave up the smokes a long time ago. Last few months he has had no quality of life but was still smiling to the end and cracking a joke daily, he wanted to go and I am glad he is in a better place now and not in so much pain.

I'm sad, one of the Pioneer VSX-9500s amps died. Lights up, powers up as normal, slight high pitch wine through speakers (It did this the first time I turned it on but it came good yesterday). Today it didn't come good and whenever I plug an input into it from the pre out of the other amp, it makes the signal fade a little. If I put an input into the "power in" section which a loopback usually runs through, the amp is actually working, but the electronics are not (line inputs/front panel buttons). Its stuffed and needs repair. I wont have the money for ages.

I hooked up the pioneer towers (dual 6 inch drivers per speaker) and technics (8 inch woofers) to the good 9500s and dragged out a mid 90's kenwood amp to drive the 12 inch speakers. Its better than nothing, but so disappointing =(.

damn!
there goes another light bulb.
I just hate these new light globes that we've been forced to use, since they stopped making incandescents.
they have the life cycle of a moth on heat.
.... and so bloody expensive.
if I had known they were going to pull the old ones off the shelves, I would've bought a couple of boxes of 'em.
Should be an online order. I can get whatever wattage I want but have to get it shipped. China is close - I'd think that would be a good source. In our dining room we have six 100 watt incandescents but they're on a dimmer and the voltage comes up slowly - two or three seconds on power up and about the same when power is removed. They've been there for a decade or more.

it's a bit of a waste of a really good driver (the TAD) as it's crossed at 7KHz (recommended 800Hz).
still, i s'pose it's a good way to not blow them up.
Really - that's like way off. I wonder why it was designed that way. Maybe it'll get tweeted to death.

Listening to Garbage - "Stupid Girl". Nice song.

the earlier IMAX boxes had all JBL bits in 'em, with a JBL 2404 for the highs.
much more appropriate and way cheaper, so it doesn't make sense to have changed over to the TAD's.
I saw a pic of a new IMAX box just before. God knows what's in 'em nowadays.

does youtube have whole albums?
check out garbage version 2.0 if they do.
the songs are really good.
i've been guilty of playing these three albums to death. shame they're just not the same anymore.
it's all HER fault. after she bought out the band and turned it into a self driven concern, she's put her musical talents aside and lost the vibe. well, that's wot i think anyway.

Oh damn......

Just bought a pair of Magneplanar Magnepan SPG speakers.
They look like these ones:

Now WHERE am I gonna get the money to pay for THEM? :confused2:
Oh well, the nice man said "yes" to my offer, so now I've got to deal with it.
Just had to get them. I'd never get the same opportunity, (for the price) again, me thinks.
... and I don't have anything like them, so I just had to do wot I had to do.
(lucky there's no women around!!!!! :laughing9: )

How you doing G?

Yes women, I call them the "Handbrake" and "Jealous Psycho Bitch", will use powerful sound waves to keep them away from the property! Vaporize them! Those speakers look great, I am going to be saving my pennies for a large power amp over the next month or two. How are your step down transformers going? what do they rate at and how much does the amp demand? Let me know re the site you got them from, am interested.

Derek,

All's good, bar the waiting for my 'new' toys. Don't know when they're coming... but come they will.
All I need now is a better DAC (with a variable output), and I think I'll have all I need for a pretty swish system, using my iMac (.flac files) - DAC - 7B's - Maggies. That's it! It'd be the simplest system I've ever had. (see how that goes whether I'll need a sub or not, but pro'ly will because I can.)

The SDT works a treat. Only got one to test, but found it's ample for my needs. I usually only draw an Amp, and rarely draw more than 2-3 Amps, (with both 7B's running) so no strain. Do a search for 240v 110v Step Down Stepdown Transformer 2000w Watt on that 'Bay place. Only $64.95. It was the cheapest when I got mine and free post. They got heaps.

Good luck finding a big amp.....

G-man.

Its good to know those plain "vanilla" type transformers work. Nice and cheap too. It always pays to talk to someone who puts them through their paces to verify the capability.

Will be doing some more recording today from vinyl, had a big cleanup yesterday, and there is still plenty of space in the storage room for gear if need be. Can't stand too much clutter of unused componentry building up in the lounge room, need that space to bop to the beat :laughing9:[h=3][/h]

Re: Garbage, great band, and as always the earlier stuff was much better. Shirley is a treat, ahhhh redhead Firey! She used to keep a leash on the other male band members, she was the boss. Should pull out those cds and give them a spin sometime, good deep bass in those beats and loops. They used a malfunctioning dat recorder for a sound effect in "stupid girl", a flickering type sound.

Thanks for the "Garbage" G and a plus one from Derek - just purchased their first three CDs. I recognized quite a few of the songs. Can't wait to get these in the house and give them a proper spin. I missed the leash though - how kinky.

yeh, lots of cool toons, and you'll be surprised at just how many you'll recognise after you play 'em all.
very "artsy" but they lost the feel.
she used to be cute, but i lost my horn for her once she 'posh'-ed herself up.
i've got a great live vid of them, recorded during their peak, and looks and sounds just awesome.
my only criticism, is that she really thinks her sh*t doesn't stink by the way she treats and talks to the others in the band. she seemed to forget that she was part of a bigger picture, and treated 'em more like her backing band. (which is sort of odd, considering from wot i've read, THEY hired HER!)
i guess they enjoy being bossed around by a woman. :laughing9:
.... but, i do like redheads. somethin' about 'em just gets to me. :evil1:

Firey as F@#! and great in certain places (evil grin). Good tunes tonight, resorted to cd for the past 3 albums whilst I was cleaning the kitchen and cooking dinner (GASP! CD!!!! that's not like me at all). Vinyl fest after this and a couple of rums. Keep those tunes pumping G, drown out the noise of the hazards in the complex =).

CD Playlist whilst I was playing kitchen bitch:

Oasis - What's the story morning Glory (had to skip a few tracks on this, don't like them all)
Presidents of the United States of america - Self titled
Pretenders - Self titled
