Got another one! This one is a little different, with the 8 fin heatsink and the single cap clamp. First impressions...

It needs help, yep.. Just opening it up, finding this rattling around inside...

IMG_1523.jpg

Then, the single cap clamp.. hmmm.. where'd it go? (on the parts to go get list...)

IMG_1525.jpg

Bet it didn't work very well with a couple of the emitter resistors replaced with wirewounds..

IMG_1526.jpg

Then ... seems some more subs were done on the board. Q1/Q2 on the left channel side... SK3444's??

IMG_1524.jpg

Time to get some parts on order. It'll get the "D" board to start with, new caps and BR, plus a few other things.. When "done", I plan on making this "look" like a WOPL (really.. the faceplate is just ... well, it looks like it went through a war. heheh.. )

More to come.. "awaiting parts" status...

On the cap clamp, take some 3/4 or 1" aluminum angle and measure the distance between the caps, then trace the cap outline on the angle, dremel from there.

Skratch got some cut out blanks Jer, and they are gorgeous. Ed Blackwood loved the one I sent him. Also, I need that old board if I could??

You put caps in before diodes??
Got my own rhythm.. Caps, lil r's, big r's, diodes, rest of the semi's, then the big electro's last. :toothy10:

Lil caps first, so when I turn it over the r's and diodes don't bind up while mounting them. Yeah.. panavise.. I know, I was looking at some tonight, hehe.

Workin' on the big r's now..

Heh.. well the other one may be an old wives (tech's?) tale, but I'm thinking of how it should be populated with the least heat-sensitive stuff first and then put in the stuff like semiconductors last. Just a self-imposed habit from thinking about it all one day, long time ago... heat can travel up them traces.. yadda yadda.

The BOM describes a method of populating a layer, then laying on a foam pad to hold the parts in place, flipping it over and soldering with the foam pad underneath. It is about the fastest method short of wave soldering.

Hi Jer
The foam pad conforms and applies pressure if you push down slightly while making the solder connection. Have used this techniques for a lot of years and it really helps, expecially with the WIMA caps that have very short leads on them.

Haven't done the foam thing, the small ones I land 4-6 at a time turn the Panavise to vertical, back em up, then a little spot solder to hold em in place then finish flipping the board and final solder.

I'm going to go find a combo auto insertion and wave solder machine, and show both of ya's up! I know where to look too.. the old Comdial building in Charlottesville, VA where they still did it "in house" up to 2001 (yup, til that too sadly went to Mexico at the time... )

:naka::naka:

How's THAT grab ya, eh? :toothy10::toothy10:

(few more trannies and the straps... ease on down, ease on down the rooooaaaddd... )
