Anybody have a PL DRS400?? I'm repurposing so if you need some parts, there are some good ones left.

I have one that was given to me a couple weeks ago and it needs some TLC. I just wanted it for the chassis as I want to make a load bank out of it. It's got plenty of room so I just need a few switches and a couple BIG heat sinks and some applicable resistors to be able to handle OVER 500W and I want it to be able to run both channels and also have some RCA's so I can hook up my Audio analyzer which has a built in attenuator and thats my only complaint about the Quant Asylum QA 401. I should NEVER have gotten rid of my awesome Bongiorno built custom load bank able to set 4, 8, 16 ohm testing and would handle a 500 Watt amp with both channels driven. Built in fans and redundant front panel connectors so you could monitor with a multimeter, analyzer, speaker jacks etc... The electronic switches are probably expensive too. I had to play with it for a while till I figured it out as Jim Bongiorno didnt mark much telling you what it had. I couldn't call him as he had died a year earlier. And NO, I don't want to cobble a couple paint cans together and rob my water heater of its parts (Its gas anyway). If anybody has a killer schematic for one, post it here.. I found this site for parts to build one but I don't think it's beefy enough. I will use the heat sinks off the DRS 400 and I have those AC Infinity programmable fans. Then I can paint the whole friggin thing GREEN with some random flashing LED's to make dipshits ask dumb questions.... :)

A cheap load bank can be made with hot water tank heaters. Home depot has a 240 volt version that is very close to 8 ohms. Downside is they have to be submerged in water or they burn up immediately. A 5 gallon bucket with a metal lid works well.

My exclusion of paint can cobbling includes 5 gallon buckets, water heater elements and 3000 1/4 watt resistors wired in series, parallel or otherwise. I want it to blend into a test bench and require pretty much zero maint (i.e. changing oil, water, 40:1chaninsaw juice etc etc etc). I don't mind spending a buck to make a useful non hacked piece of test equipment that works like a REAL piece of lab hardware. Hiding it in a repurposed amp chassis is perfect, easy to blend in and you can stack test gear on it for easy access. But hey, I'm weird. I even bought a new lamp shade for my DBT because they look ghetto. If yer gonna test a $4000 amp/preamp, spend a few bucks and make it LOOK like you know what yer doing.

After a few hours we found it. Its for the Model 240 and 250. It's a copy of a copy of a copy. I've tried to enhance it a bit and if it's not good enough get me your email and we'll go that route..

Lee,, if you want the clear copy, I found the link to the thread you were on at AK.... I'm going to build the 250 clone but I will run 2 channels with the other two parallel. I ordered the resistors yesterday and I need to figure out a switch since it isn't annotated on the schematic. I'll wire it for 4 and 8 ohms, I never found a use for 16 ohms. Do you know what switch they used. GOOD ones, none of that Cina shit.
