We had a bus driver named Mr. Graham. he was a really old black man from Salem Alabama. Raised goats, chickens and pigs right next door to our schoolhouse, Wacoochee. He drove us every day and when the kids on the bus would act up he would look up in that mirror and say 'Yall shut up all that fuss! Yall shut up all that fuss or I'm gonna turn over dis bus and kill all y'all white folks! We loved him to death. I still do not know how he was going to turn over the buss and ONLY kill the white folks though because we had all colors right on there. Why did I say above that he raised goats, chickens and pigs right next door to the school you ask? Because in our day there were no air conditioners in the schools so the doors and windows were open when it was hot out and we had daily visitors from Mr. Graham's farm animals inside the school rooms. Like I said, we all loved 'Old Man Graham' .

500 died in Pinto rear-end collisions; how many total died in rear-end collisions, regardless of vehicle type, during the same time-frame?

Not saying their lying; just saying having ALL the data would paint the accurate picture...

I suspect the Pinto is as "unsafe" as other vehicles in rear-end collisions, and possibly safer than some, particularly older designs, which were still on the road in the 70's as daily drivers.
The pinto "issue" was the fuel tank coud be squashed between the rear axle in a rear collision causing it to split open and dump fuel everywhere.
Remember the GMC and Chevy pickups with " saddle" tanks ? Same issue with a side impact....

Just put lithium batteries in there to power it. I can see no problem there.
