THE Crossover Thread

Bob, my legacy 4X10HD has a master volume control that's enabled or disabled in the software. My understanding is the optional remote can control the volume once it's enabled.
Mine is not enabled, nor do I have the remote. I did enable and test it using the multifunction knob on the front, and it worked very well, but I have no real experience using it as such.
I know someone else is using it as a preamp, but can't remember who.

I have been using the 4x10HD to drive the amps directly for years.....

Well, my past favorite pre was my Marantz 3200, I had a Marantz faze back in the day and went through the 3200 / 3600 and the 3800, then the carvers, C1 and C4000 I had a short run with a couple of Yamaha units if I recall....
Everything changed when I went down the 4 way and active crossover rabbit hole. The digital realm gave me the ability to fuck with just about anything.... I sometimes miss just tinkering with some slides on an EQ or a tweek to bass or treble knob.....
Anyway back to the question, apples to oranges... I miss the simplicity but I guess I'll always appreciate the sound of that old 3200....

Thanks for that - I'm trying to decide if I want to give up my Exposure integrated and its sound in exchange for a pure digital sound controlling two amps and bi-amped speakers. The price is certainly right, but I can't use the mini-DSP with the Exposure as there's not a direct input to its amp so I couldn't use it as one of the two amps. So it's an either/or decision, not either/and.

All the Johnson/Cinch jacks I have ordered from Mouser had the small shaft and short banana plug depth.

They do appear good build quality, but I just don't like the small surface area if using spade terminals and short depth for decrease in banana plug support.

Those look like the Sparkfun 38 cent specials. Only come in red and black and are nickel plated. I will let you know when I get them later this week.

Seems you bought out the stock that All Spectrum had on hand. Not to worry, Mouser has hundreds of them...

I deoxit my Ashley every couple of years as well on all my other stuff

And you'll hear a significant improvement if you remove those old opamps and upgrade them. I've got one that is ready for this surgery now.

I would also like to know. I sent my Ashley to the factory to be calibrated and they had the same opamps in it when I got it back

Searching around the web and found a likely candidate. One of the deltas to beware of is the supply voltage. The NJM4580 supply voltage rating is +/- 18 V and for the NJM2943 it is +/- 22 V. Otherwise the specs seem to line up.

I really liked this one the best in an Ashly XR2001 - OPA1612AID and OPA1642AID. They're SOIC so I had to attach to adapters but no bigeee. It was the best sounding I had tried and I sampled a number of them. Massive improvement over stock. I put sockets in the opamp positions so I can plug and play.

Also tried some LT1364's and they sounded better as well. These likely can be bettered by other newer LT chips I'm guessing by now though, but these are excellent sounding as well over the stock.
