hope someone will help and advise...
the hafler amps are at the post office ...delivery imminent...model p230s....i am sure it has balanced inputs ...they were advertised as working...i realize i can make a jumper arrangement to test...
but i do need long term clean solution....

the p230s came in yesterday....
got one cleaned up...not to sure how to proceed...
on dbt tester...bulb is dim....does not go away...nor is it bright...dont know if that is normal...
the input is a "2 circuit 1/4 phono plug"...
i presume that means 2 conductor??
no dc voltage on output...
30 to 40 mv offset...unopened...
gonna keep lookin for that acorn...

Dim is normal. That old Boonton 102D AM/FM rf generator I just went through would just start the filament of a 100 watt bulb to glow at 90 VAC on the Variac. At 118 VAC(my wall voltage) it had a deep orange glow, but no white light.
If your really cautious, hook up a AC amp meter and see what they're pulling at idle.
Wish you also had a Variac. You really need one.

clean up, tweaked, tested....done
offset at .0000
they were close...
bias at 275ma
one bias was way off...600+ ma...
mono mode works fine...
350 wpc in monoblock setting...
a nice clean pair of monoblocked hafler p230 amps...eventually pulling woofer duty...pretty sure i will have to run another 20 amp service...
7 amps in total...a lot on a single breaker...

well...put up the 400 for another day...
switched the haflers to monoblock...
each putting 350 watts to its own woofer....got them on line!!!!
its awful strong...should be enough headroom...
a total of 2140 watts rms...got a new dac/preamp ordered...got the smsl su9 ....about the best streaming specs for the 500 dollar range...i do need to clean the phono jacks...a bit scratchy at first....will wrap all of that up when the new dac arrives....its all about the music!!!

the haflers have movs across the incoming ac...
would it be a bad thing to put them across the ac in the pl400s???

Won’t do any harm but won’t really do anything either. Nothing on the primary of the PL amps except the transformer primary windings. The hafler may be different in that respect

That's the cleanest set of commercially-used amps I've ever seen, for sure. We somehow manage to beat the hell out of ours moving them around for different applications.

they do look beautiful...inside and out....
i believe they are a superior unit ..i do want to upgrade the big caps...maybe to 22000 uf
i want one more p230 to replace the cambridge audio in the bed room...sounds terrible next to the vintage gear ....its only 16" wide...and will fit perfectly in my cabinet...i will keep looking...

all to protect is the switch and problem indicator using the light in the switch ...dual purpose light...

after more reading...i am pretty much convinced that the device i thought was a mov...i now believe is an inrush current limiter...

got the dh160 equalizer in...well packed....opened it up...tightened transformer...was clean...got it installed...put on a wopl/voigt combo...replaced dsp...overkill...still have dsp on 4 ways...
equalizer works perfectly....voigts are overpowering as speaker sensitivity is 96db....mids and voice hit hard...just tones it down a bit...as per advice of driver vendor....waiting on new chromecast ultras and hafler ps cap upgrade and recap...
getting there!!!
equalizer has date embedded in the boards...seems thi is a january 1982 model...full of chips....
