Exactly, we needed a way to make our tunes mobile.

I never got into open real, and I'm not going down that rabbit hole, that looks like an expensive one...

I'm here to vouch for the fact that open reel is an expensive - and addicting - niche of our hobby.

yes and I'm not going there, every time I see one I just keep scrolling, because they're beautiful pieces of art, and my buddy had one in high school and I always admired it. Scrolling scrolling scrolling scrolling right past it lol

Interesting and I guess it was just a way for cassette to get a little closer to R2R. If the tapes weren't so darn expensive I would think about getting one. My buddy had an Akai R2R when I was in high school, he guarded it with his life and it was a nice piece of gear.

I still have the Teac A-2300s that I bought with the money I saved while washing dishes at a local restaurant while in HS! Used to lug it all around to concerts that either I played or did sound/PA for friends’ bands. It still works but really needs to be taken apart and serviced. One of these days…

that's pretty amazing! Talk about longevity, and I bet you wash a lot of dishes to get that... awesome.

Maybe you guys in the know can comment on this.

I have the BASF extra & super cassette tapes which are pure chromium dioxide as far as I can tell.

I'd like to try an alternative that is pure chromium dioxide and I'm looking for suggestions. I'm only looking for one or two to try and see if they are as tricky to get right on my decks.

I would appreciate the help and knowledge, thanks.

These are a few: Agfa CrII, Philips UC-II and MC-II, Memorex CRXII, Memorex CD2. I'm sure there are early vintage 1970's TDK KR, Maxell CR, Scotch Chrome and Sony CRO Plus 2, as well.

Nando.
