Good Morning Gene,
Lots of Good Will here, and great people.
Sorry to hear about your setback but look at it as a blessing in disguise.
You have the tools, knowledge and support to bring that 400 to full WOPLdom !
Remember the mantra..... "Always working on making it better... "
Have a great day Gene.

What size fuse did you have in that amplifier?
For the PL400, because it does not have a power switch, I installed a 10 Ohm 15 Amp NTC Thermistor (MS32 10015) from the incoming AC power to the Line Fuse. It soaks up some of that turn on power or line surge until it warms up. It never gets hot to the touch, though.

I think it was Glenn who showed us a piece of fuse length and thickness solid copper wire he pulled out of a fuse holder. No more blown fuses!

while waiting for mr. joe and mr. don to process my orders....to wopl the original 4 fin....with the 400c driver board...
i thought i would investigate a bit....i could find absolutely nothing wrong on the driver board...all checked in what i consider good while in circuit...while checking side to side....as a comparison...no shorts...no opens...etc
i depopulated the outputs....had two or three blown.. left channel....also had a burnt 150 ohm resistor on the bottom socket near the transformer....
replaced and rechecked....
then....i started repopulating...this is the amp that had a similar problem originally....mr. joe advised me to use to pl909f for two of the drivers and the regular driver outputs for the other two in the first row...when i went back up...i went back to all 2741s this time...i believe is the number...on the bottom row...
intermittenly the dbt would not dim...i spent most of the day checking and rechecking and swapping outputs around....tightening loosening screws...swapping sil pads...swapping outputs....was a long day....but, finally....
i could replicate the issue....i populated the bottom row of drivers....without screws....light dimmed and the dcp board clicked on...
i repopulated the screws one output at a time then power on to check....got down to the last one....nearest the transformer....
if i leave out the screws of this one....it dims...relay clicks...
the instant i install a screw....the dbt will not dim....
as of now...it is working....with only the drivers in but with no screws in the affected transistor...swapping drivers or sil pads on this one alone was no change....did not eliminate the issue...nothing looks visibly wrong with the socket....but, dont add screws....lol
i remember in this thread someone had a bad socket...that took them a bit to diagnose.....maybe i do too....or something similar...
tomorrow i will change it out...since i have plenty from the previous wopl....to see if that fixes the problem...
i did not like the tolerances so...i redrilled all of the output pin holes as i did with the wopl.....both of these are 4 fins....and the holes dont match as well as i thought it should...i know now i have plenty of clearance....2 of the holes were extremely close ....too close for me....
i believe the quality improved in the production as my 8 fins dont seem to be as misaligned as these two 4 fins...
anyway....
we shall see......
merry christmas....
stay warm,..

You have a bad socket that's shorting to ground. They've far outlived they're as designed life span. Visit Glenn's Dual 500 thread and look at the new sockets he's using for building those beasts. Really nice!
