Never got stranded driving a manual
we did get stranded one time.... have to cut up a rubber boot to make clutch material on one of our mud trucks....the clutch disintegrated...we got a big screwdriver and put pieces of the boot between the clutch and pressure plate....cranked it in gear and drove it out of the wood....was interesting...
but, that is a clutch problem and not a transmission problem...and who among us has not limped home with a screaming throw out bearing...lol

Or a push or downhill start with a dead battery. I'm a old air cooled VW guy. So I really appreciate the heat and air conditioning on newer cars. Love modern auto trannies also. Those old 2 speed Powerglides weren't so great for fuel economy. Glenn going to look up those part #s after I make a pot of coffee. Then a full day day of chores.

Last year I managed to get one of the ultra-rare-to-find Toyota Rav4 Prime cars. This is the first Japanese car I ever bought, and certainly never would have seen myself buying a hybrid - let alone a "plug-in hybrid". But this was going to be my wife's daily driver and I pretty much did nothing but wrote the check, much to my dismay.

Well, for the records, I was big-time wrong! This car is an ABSOLUTE BLAST to drive and has gotten amazing gas mileage, even when in purely mechanical engine mode. The electric side, with 100% motor torque when you wail on the loud pedal, is sheer excitement!

The one part I hated was the thought of the "snowmobile-like" CVT transmission, as they are a POS to drive. Wrong again ... watch this video of the RAV4 Prime CVT teardown - trust me it is a long video, but this guy is a teacher and gets into the nitty-gritty of the superiority of this transmission, compared to ANY slushbox on the market.

jajajajajajajajajaj
well, i need what i need...maybe a little extra allowing for the occasion f' ups....lol, not that i have any of those????
just make sure i am covered, please....just please send all in ONE box, if possible, and please, as small as possible....if it dont fit in the delivery box on the back of a motor cycle...then i have to drive to the post office to get it...or if its too heavy...lol
lets just do it...i have licked all of my wounds....kissed a little a**....listened to a few i told you sos....and had a mountain of encouragement and support....what else does a man need....just the parts to complete the task at hand...if i need new jacks...i want new jacks...now i do have the new posts that come with the dcp board kit... please, if you have a box of 8 amp agx fuses...please throw in the box...those are the two short ones...i have no spares...if they are needed in the wopl box...and if you are really angry with me...please send each fuse in its own package so i can pay more freight...
jajajajajajja....just kidding....PLEASE DONT DO THAT....LOLOLOLOL

these variable speed belt transmission were used on early farmall combines...we had one...and had to sand the pulleys each year after sitting over the winter...as not to eat up that very expensive belt....and my yamaha grizzly 600 used one....the automatics of the 4 wheeler world....i am sure technology has much better stuff now....i never have quite caught up yet....still think spark plugs cost a dollar...lol

AND....i still think the gen 1 cummins 5.9 is more flexible and dependable than the newer generations and ho models....
had one in my 93...my 05 is a gen 3 with 325 hp and 600 ft/lb setup....i chipped it which puts it near the 500hp/800torque specs....
i kept the chip under 200...so that it would at least take a few years before it gutted the transmission....lol

One-stop shopping,
[QUOTE="still think spark plugs cost a dollar...lol[/QUOTE]

When you amortize the high cost of Iridium and Palladium plugs over the mileage they last in your engine, well, they're still a dollar in the pre-1980's world of needing a tune-up every 12,000 miles!

the r945 and r1340s used platinum plugs...that we paid 20 bucks each 25+ years ago...lol
today they seem to be in the 35 to 40 dollar range....and they were shielded as to interfere less with the radios and or gps units ....
and there were 18 in each engine...they were removed cleaned every 6 months when the commercial crop dusters underwent inspection...
i still have one of those spark plug cleaners .... mine was the portable model and not the bench mounted ones....

those powerglides are very close to bullet proof....the transmission used in the older fuel dragsters....before the advent of slipping the clutch....
the boss hog motorcycle used the power glides as well as some monster trucks....they did take a terrific amount of abuse...
i would be terrified of maintainance issues on the newer 6 and 10 speed autos...lol....
i think we are all just old school hippies to some degree....
