what a nice led upgrade joe....nice quality...
it is the perfect amount of light for me...not too bright...not too dim...
these pics are in the daylight with my den with 5 nice sized picture windows....plenty of natural light....
the meters show up nicely!!!
the cap kit came in today also....
maybe by tomorrow, i can wrap this up....for now...
lol
thanks everybody!!!!
With those dark tinted meters, did you have to crank the intensity all the way up?

Oooo... the new light boards are adjustable are they? Shweet... I have an older 400 WO light board here (thanks George) that I may look at modifying into Tim (700/1) if I can do minimal alterations to the meters themselves.

ok...here we go again....during the recap...
i found a bunch of sloppy stuff on the board...under the right set of 3 wires...there was a big blob of solder...laying across several of the runs...
but, evidently it had not shorted them.....and a few questionable joints...and all of the leads were 3/8" long....sticking out everywhere....some were very close to touching...i cleaned the board and checked against the dot map or board runs in the service manual...400c
i did test before and after the protect board...before and after the light kit...
and before the recap....however...
after testing with the dim bulb tester with no inputs or outputs... it acted normal...bulb went dim after a couple of seconds...then i switched to shore power...and powered it up....
it played music about three seconds and it shut down...
i checked the fuses....someone had 8 amps in all three slots...
and two were blown....
what the hell did i do now....crap....
please,

Screw it
Those outputs have a "Life Expectancy" just like a set of tires. When they go, it aint pretty. Why upgrade your amp and leave the old junk? I don't know why you would need somebody to advise you if you know trons.

Lasted about as long as it should have with 40 year old junk still in it. Time to finish the upgrade, you'll not have that problem again.

Bulk caps and a DC Protection circuit is a great start but the issues are MANY with these amps. Those outputs are an accident just waiting to happen.

i discharged the two capacitors to work on the unit....could that have blown the fuses??
Depends on what points you discharged them from.

But you said the amp was working and then stopped working. Then you discovered the 2 blown fuses...

Highly doubtful. Replace the fuses and bring it back up on the dim bulb but it's probably blew up an output or two
i dont have agx fuses...i hooked up jumpers with agc 5...
with no inputs outputs....dim bulb is pretty bright and does not dim...

but, it did not blow the new fuses....
i didnt go any further....

did you download the manual? It shows how to test the outputs. read read read and then read some more
i have the manual....the procedure will only tell you if there is a bad transistor in the line....if i understand what i am reading...
i want to remove each one...test it in my hand...
never tested a 2 legged transistor....i presume the base is the shell...
i will continue reading...
