An update to the thread, I have the drivers mounted and wired in the boxes and getting ready for testing..

Ill have some pics shortly....

I have been thinking about the 400 I have set aside to run the tweeters but that is double overkill.... ish....

What are the thoughts of using either a 200 or 300 ?

Any opinions out there on which amp would be better suited ?

The 300 is a very good little amp. Bias trannies connections are unreliable and if a bias trannies goes, pop goes one of those unobtanium outputs, which just happens to be the same ones the mighty SX 1980 uses....good luck finding any...

Even.less reliable. PL even recommended NO 4 OHM loads on it..clips asymmetrically... just a piss poor design.
You can cure the 300's problems, but not the 200's.

Had a PL200 Series 2 myself, had to replace just about everything in it and rebuild it including zorched traces on the PCBs. After rebuild, it was a nice sounding amp, like the 400.

The 200 and 300 were the red haired stepchildren of PL. Run fast and far away is my recommendation.

Both are scarce, mostly for a reason :).

Getting closer to being finished.... Before I got into the vaneer stage of things I did some set up and listening of the drivers in the naked boxes and I am very impressed with the initial results ! The 15's were cut off @ 280 Hz and the 10's cut off @ 2k .. Just a starting point before I really get into the setup .... 20220124_195603.jpg 20220124_174053.jpg

One thing I may change is wiring the drivers in parallel instead of series .... I had to boost the DSP's output a lot more than the other channels to get the right initial volume as wired in series .... Thinking a DPDT switch incorporated into the binding post wired to switch from one to the other.....
4 ohm parallel / 16 ohm series

Keep in mind, those JBL 2405 Slots are only rated at 40W.

I use either 2402 Rings or 2405 Slots [actually 077]. I chop and change my points all the time. Active or passive.
I also fiddle about with their locations lots too! Like have 'em real high. Like about 2 metres higher than my monitors.
It just adds a bit of 'air', and 'tinkly' types sounds like chimes etc., just sound so spacey.

Mine's running bridged into an 8 Ohm load [sub]. Has been for years now. At least they came with DC protect as standard.

An Update to the dual 10" midrange build...

I decided to re-cone the 2123's while I was at it ....

After some preliminary testing I also decided to incorporate a Series/ Parallel switch ....

I'm thinking parallel performs best !

Just playing around with the crossover fq' s and eq settings now....

15's 280 hz
10's 280 - 2K
Horns 2K - 8K
Tweeters 8K - 20K

Parallel always performs better. With a series connection, your damping factor goes to hell in a handbasket. What you listen to is not real with a series speaker connection.
