I am also knocking together some horns.
Just got the woofers back from Vancouver Audio Speaker Clinic. New cones, coils and spiders. I bought them brand new in 1968 for some homebuild cabinets I made using a skillsaw which made for some unsquare boxes,. Especially the 1st one. My homebrew boxes spent 12 or 15 years in a friend's garden shed and did not weather that experience very well. That's why the woofer rebuild.
Tweets, mids and crossovers I bought used. Also from VASC. They were salvaged from some homemade speakers someone in the owner's family disassembled.
The cabinets to house the EV speaker components were part of a Sony stereo system bought on a local online auction. I bought the system speciifcally for the speakers because of the lavender grille cloth. My intention all along was to use those enclosures to house these Electro Voice drivers. The turntable got sold, cassette and receiver went to Value Village and Glen got the stereo cabinet. Said it was going to his cabin.
What was inside were some beefy Sansui 12" woofers that I gave to a local fellow (Montycat on AK), some generic plastic horn tweeters (not Piezo) that went in the trash because they were blown and some 4.5" Philips full range used for mid-ranges. I kept those for an as yet undetermined reason. Crossovers were off the shelf Armaco 3 ways that were also given along with the woofers.
Still to do is build the tuning ducts which I hope to do this weekend. A friend lives and hour away and he has a radial arm saw and a reasonable supply of wood scraps from his renos.
Objective is to have both cabinets done during the next week. I have no clue how they will sound. A bit bright perhaps?
